I think it matters, getting access to support is very good and also knowing what ails you is good That's the rub, the actual support often times isn't there whether you've got a diagnosis or not. If people did routinely get the support that they needed following a diagnosis, it would be a much clea...

If you need disability services, they are gonna ask for proof. I'm signing up for vocational rehab, they want my medical records.

So yes, I rather think my diagnosis was an important thing.

Define "special needs", and I'll tell you. I don't wish to appropriate the term, nor do I have a need to use it personally. I do consider myself disabled.

I do. When I am impacted in a way that prevents me from being able to care for myself, I'd say that's a disability.

Wouldn't say that "awareness" has done much. People are only aware that autism exists, while the average opinion on it is incredibly uninformed and narrow.

I hear ya. I was happy about being diagnosed, but after issues came up in work that were because of my autism I just feel like I'm from a different planet. My confidence has gone way down, my anxiety is awful, and I have worse RSD than ever.

My anxiety has gotten so bad. Earlier I was crying in a coffee shop because my tap to pay wouldn't work and even though the barista was super nice my anxiety was through the roof. (I was still able to pay by giving my card number)

Abilify is one of my meds prescribed off-label for anxiety. It's a dopamine stabilizer, so one unintended affect is it dulls and kinda mutes my hyperfixations.
