A key trait of autism is things like not being able to read social cues. I honestly had no idea this was a thing for me until very recently. I thought I was doing alright. But subtle s**t been happening with my psyche. I had social anxiety without knowing what that was or being at all conscious abou...

Mainly because I hold back my real self and only a handful of people get to know the real me. They never stay, though.

Also.... this is brought on by an RSD episode I'm currently riding out after my friend group had to ask me to stop info dumping in the discord server.

I mean, I can see it being a thing...

Liars use more words to try and cover their bases.

But autistic people use more words because we are constantly misunderstood and we feel like using more words will make it harder for us to be misunderstood. .....hahaha. I hate my life.

I feel that.

There are strategies and stuff to help these things that work for people like us. Even then, it is harder for us to keep up with and very few people understand.

I have spent all my life having very little clue I was different. Now I see the differences. And it's horrible for my mental health-- but it was even before I knew, too. I first developed the social anxiety around age 13/14.

Really think I'm just incompatible with friendships altogether. Like yeah... I'm "likeable". I'm "quirky". That makes me seem funny or maybe cute. That's what people usually tell me. ....but if you ever get past my walls, you'll change your mind. Trust me. You will. My social iss...

Is fatigue common in autistic people? Might chores that most "normal" people do, like raking, be very fatiguing for someone who is autistic? 100%. Especially cuz I'm in what's called "autistic burnout". Very severely so. Also... some of it's just executive dysfunction. It takes ...

Would say the DSM V criteria gets it right:

-socially

-strong presence of obsessive and repetitive behaviors

That's all. These differences are notably more present than they are in NTs, and also caused cuz our brains are quite literally wired differently.

^I think the quality of mental health therapies is the less admirable side of the socialised healthcare system we have in the UK. Because most of us don't bother with private medical insurance, because we know in a pinch the NHS will be there, we don't plan for mental health issues. The NHS does it...

-What benefits has therapy brought you? I have had a number of therapists since 2018. Some were meh, some where alright, and some were great. The most helpful therapist I had was in 2022, I believe. She had so many resources and a wide range of knowledge. -Did you improve your social skills? The onl...

For me, diagnosis have been extremely important. Because I am going on disability, and I need my disability documented for that. I didn't get the diagnosis to go on disability, no. At the time I was intending on continuing to work and stuff. But I at least needed it for ADA accommodations to be lawf...
