Sadly, your story is common for autistic folk. A mixture of social skills deficit on an individual level and a society that is often hostile to neurodiverse folk results in a life of deprivation, on many levels, for many autistic folk. Yes, although it should get easier in the future if they bother... |

Why do people with autism (or really any kind of disability) not get believed when they try to voice what their needs are? What would you advise a person with autism, schizophrenia, etc. to do when they find themselves in this kind of situation? Because it's classified as a disorder and if you don'... |

One of the things OP seems to not quite get is that it's unlikely his post will be found helpful, it'll either be found agreeable or disagreeable. Those who disagree are going to tear it apart from a hundred different angles he likely wasn't even prepared for (at the very least his post seems obliv... |

I agree that rainbows just dont make it as an emblem. Not because there is anything wrong with them per se but because so many causes have already latched onto rainbows. Back in the day Jesse Jackson ran for POTUS and strived for a "rainbow coalition" (folks of differing skin colors and o... |

I was diagnosed with schizotypal personality disorder before I was diagnosed with aspergers. I think that's also related to schizophrenia. It's on the schizophrenia spectrum, towards the mild end. It's become the replacement for a portion of Schizoid Personality Disorder folks. Which is itself more... |

Do credit-unions offer one-on-one services to credit-union members? One of many examples: Can credit-union officials offer members the services of acting as a "third party of sorts" in negotiating the purchase of a motor vehicle? I have my account with a local credit union with my mom and... |

↑ tl;dr All that preaching means nothing without expressing the love of Christ with your every action, every word, and every thought. Preaching peace and inclusion brings people in. Preaching Hell-fire and condemnation turns people away. I've been on the receiving end of too much of the latter and ... |

I never bought into most organized religions, just because they are an absolute crock. You live your entire life and might, after you die, learn the truth. And, at that point, you get to spin the wheel and find out if your particular version of religion was right, or at least acceptable enough, to b... |

I guess you're not a fan of civil disobedience, or of attempts being made to change rules? You can obey rules while also attempting to change them. Civil disobedience is one way to attempt to change rules, and there are many forms of civil disobedience. Boycott to your heart's content. I strongly d... |

I've never taken the Sally-Anne test and since I know how it works I wouldn't be able to take it as a test, given that I already know the right answer. My understanding is the test is usually given to children, in which case I could imagine failing the test, as a child, simply because I might have ... |

The movie performed poorly because it’s a musical, a minority interest unless it’s a big name actor or story like Les Misérables. ND advocates lie they hated the movie because it depicted more severe forms of autism and because these people are ableist they don’t want these people shown. Superpower... |

Clearly, but if there even an overdiagnosis problem large enough to justify the false negative evaluations? Self diagnosis gets you nothing if it's not a genuine thing that speaks to your personal life experience. Yep. Like "self diagnosed people are taking away resources from those who need i... |

If I speed (which I don't right now, I actually go far below the speed limit cos scared), it's because I'm matching the speed of the cars around me. Going too slow is just as dangerous as going too fast, as my instructor is trying to drill into me. Def agree on the service dog thing at least. That ... |

Understanding that other people have different opinions is one thing, identifying it when it's relevant and using it to make decisions is another.
It's more often the case that we struggle to use a theory of mind to guide our actions and expectations with respect to others. |
