A friend of mine lived with two cats that always provided the after-dinner entertainment. They would put down a saucer of water, and one cat would stare into it, and bat at their reflection whenever the water was still. The other ignored the saucer, but was fascinated by the drops of water splashed ...

I don't think it's quite pathological, but I tend to resist long sequences of plans that all depend on things going right to stay on time. I don't like having to improvise or upset others' schedules.

My parents were into swimming, boating, and water skiis, so I was around water a lot. Much later, I went out to test some equipment I'd made, and didn't notice that I was floating until it checked out. As a high-scorer in science, I got invited to three sample University lectures. I can't remember t...

Once, I was living in a warehouse. Waking up, I could tell the windspeed from the roof ventilator RPM, the direction from the aircraft noise, and the cloud cover by the light leaks. What I like in my home now is workshop-style overhead radiant heaters for a pleasant warm-up when needed. Summer night...

I wish everything could be decided on who is more deserving, but we also have to consider the danger to society. Unemployed crooks do more damage. One set me back about seven years. There are societies where a criminal is treated as socially handicapped and given skilled individual help overcoming t...

Thank you Dissociation for your work on this important topic. What strategies will be used to help men's mental health? I started a thread about it here. I should look that up. I started to feel a lot more sane when I first read about Sociobiology and the logic of gender relations. Sadly, even the ...

Personally, I think that if a choice needed to be made, it'd be fairer to put more resources to helping the disabled get employed than former criminals. This is because criminals have made the choices that made them in to criminals themselves, unlike majority of disabled people who are so of no fau...

I like your observation that crooks and gimps need different types of accommodations. Reducing overall economic inequality tends to fix both problems. If the rich were not sucking up so much production, and causing so much waste to make money, supporting the handicapped, the losers in the genetic lo...

I'd spent 15 years getting what I could from various self-help groups that never mentioned genetics at all. My sister was still distressed over our mother's quirks when she was dying, so I did another search on the symptoms. I found a half-page on Asperger's, and began to wonder if we were both Auti...

Playing victim can be learned easily, and reduces the need to learn anything else, so the person winds up with a developmental handicap that locks them in. I'd like to see it prosecuted early, as vigorously as insurance fraud, because it steals from the most vulnerable and also hurts their credibili...

I'm sure that straight men have the same trouble getting diagnosed with PTSD. Today, Canada is celebrating Indigenous Reconciliation Day, and I see lots of women and girls being used as examples of victims, and two-spirits often mentioned, but no men at all, and boys only included as "children....

Couldn’t keep up …. Did not enjoy it , shortly after joining . . . . . Realize it is a singularily a great thing for many people , especially newer generations . But it felt like a lot of marketing . And many unsolicited friend requests . From unknown persons . IT really seemed alittle bit like it ...

^^ We are awash in sneaky advertising. A video clip of something interesting built of cardboard is almost sure to be sponsored if the production values are decent and a product name is visible. "Product placement" on movie sets is both popular and expensive. Even whole themes, like the gan...

My sport and fitness maintainer is a bicycle. It is usually face time that keeps me awake, mulling over what was said or not said. If I have not had my exercise, it is worse. Sometimes, a good sprint is a great way to burn off the adrenalin from anger. Bonus: An Aikido Story A turning point in my li...

ABBA made a substantial contribution to Sweden's tax collectors, but I don't know about this new group. I had a math teacher who was frustrated that I had lower than expected marks, and wanted to talk about cars. Many years later, I taught myself how to use math to make better cars. He could have gi...

There are strict standards for the percentage of insect parts allowed in processed food. It is not zero, and I've never heard of any enforcement. My NT father seemed to think that flies all went wading in feces and then rubbed their legs over his food to clean them, but the odds of that seem low whe...
