if i could not be myself how could I be happy? Some people don't enjoy their own company - perhaps a majority. By subsuming their personality into a group, they may feel part of something better, and less risky. When I was young, I was afraid to live alone, and now that it has happened, as I suspec...

I had many sexual relationships and one marriage, but they were based on my partner's assumptions and illusions about me, which wore thin sooner or later. Only in the last, best one did I try to be myself more and it was the only one that was ended by me, due to inadequate compatibility. The last en...

I moved due to noise in '06. I just had to go looking for a better place, and it took two months. Sometimes, it has been problematic here, but now I have a handy car camper for short get-aways. However, after all these years, I am finally re-learning how to ignore minor noise and get sleep. I hope t...

I think I'd probably have better luck with women in places like Philippines or Thailand. It sounds as if that is where you really want to go - to a woman. FWIW, I never had any luck at all with the women I approached. I did get considerable experience by noticing which women were interested in me, ...

I agree with the statement if applied to some foreign/domestic comparisons and some NT/Aspie comparisons, but not others. If we include the full AS spectrum, it is probably true more often than not, but not by a large margin.

For me, B&W thinking was a useful professional discipline; a technique to refine my work. If something made my stuff even a little bit worse in certain ways, it was BLACK, and not to be considered. Of course, there were other tradeoffs - it got harder to build sometimes. There are also instances...

I got extreme PTSD from being awaken at exactly the wrong time by machine noise, and remain quite sensitive to it. However, one morning I had gone camping at a friend's farm to escape some construction, and he had some wood to split. I heard the first stroke, and decided that if there was a sane fri...

No one understands anything. I presume that includes yourself. In general, you can refuse to act, but if this is seen as cheating, you will probably pay another way. In general, one human should always help another human if the overall effort is thereby reduced, or one is struggling harder than the...

Maybe you can become an actor, playing the part of a retail worker in an improv show that is not supposed to be funny or unnecessarily dramatic. That way, anything the customers say to you remains the problem of your character, not your real self.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/03/well/live/autistic-burnout-advice.html I’m 78 and otherwise in good health. I have been a major contributor to a music site but, for the last few years have contributed almost nothing and have lost interest in the whole world of music. Is this the "burn-out&q...

There are differences between countries, of course, but there are also very big differences within countries. Just the urban/rural split is huge. Where do you want to fit on that spectrum, and what is that sector like in each country? FWIW, I'm in rural Canada, and although the health care is free, ...

What do you do?

If I have tried the paper listing of pros and cons, and just don't have enough to go on, nor time to gather more, I flip a coin. However, I don't necessarily obey it. As soon as I see the result, I observe if it makes me happy or sad, and go by that.

I was bitten by a dog around age 12, but have only had excellent relations with them as an adult. One dog used to bark at almost all visitors, often for quite a while, but when I arrived, even her fur stayed flat.

I do not think you are wrong. I just am baffled by why this happens so frequently. I know the reason. But knowing the reason and having it actually make sense are two different things. I am consistently frustrated by the fact that this is a norm that seems to have no benefit. Even our best thinkers...

I think the generic problem here is that you are putting facts first, while others consider their feelings paramount. That is what my therapist says. You think there is a problem to solve. There are actually two problems to solve: firstly, the other person's ego, then the problem you see. It isn't ...
