I recently realized that my mother was probably on the spectrum. Which would explain a lot about our lack of any mother/daughter relationship. |

I've rarely had any attachment to objects, and when I have it's because they're useful or beautiful. I don't collect anything and it's fairly easy for me to throw stuff out when I feel that my life is getting too cluttered. |

I didn't do a count, but I'd say that no more than half of the items apply to me. And, as has already been mentioned, many of the traits on the list are not gender-specific. If they were seperated out, the list might be more useful. At least, she often says "may" instead of making all-inclusive stat... |

The question should really be "Why isn't Dirac better known to the general public?" My answer is: why does it matter? His importance is to physics, and I'm sure he's as well known in the physics community as Feynman, Einstein, Heisenberg, etc. |

It makes more sense to look at high school grades and how difficult that was, than worry about IQ. College is somewhat harder than high school, so if the person had a very hard time in high school and had to work their butt off just to keep up, then college is probably going to be very difficult. Bu... |

If a therapist has no practical experience dealing with Asperger's then he will depend entirely on the DSM criteria, and will look for the outward signs. If you don't have those outward signs because your Asperger's is very mild or involves mental and emotional problems rather than physical, then th... |

My favorite is Women from Another Planet? I've read a lot of others and enjoyed most of them, but when an individual writes about their own experience, it's often something that I can't really relate to. Women from Another Planet? is a collection of personal stories and discussions by women all alon... |

I haven't read the book, but I did read Cowen's article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, which pretty much summarized his ideas about autistic thinking. I also had an interesting email exchange with him after commenting on his blog. He offered to send me a copy of the book, but the company that... |

Conrad wins. You cheated. Semi-colons disqualify you. |

I've never felt any need for validation. I just wanted to fill in the last gaps of understanding my differences, and learning about Asperger's did that. I'm self-diagnosed and have no need for any kind of support. I was in my 60s before I ever heard of autism and Asperger's, so obviously I lived my ... |

I'm extremely analytical. In fact, that's probably my distinguishing characteristic. For me, that means getting into the subtleties of an argument or set of facts, sorting out the false or the useless from the true or usefull. Being able to do that on as many levels as possible also requires a good ... |

I'd say that 99% of the posts I read here and on other aspie sites are no different from NT posts, except in their subject matter. For me, an "aspie post" is one that's straight forward, clearly stated, and deeply analytical. But that's just my personal definition, because those are the qualities I ... |

I'm 72, Bob. Does that help? As several others have said, there's no known link between Asperger's and longevity. There probably aren't too many of us elders on forums because no diagnosis was available when we were young, and a lot of us have discivered our aspieness fairly recently, and on our own... |
