No two autistics are the same, and I carry a home-made, adapted version of the Autism Alert Card as much of the original doesn't apply to me. Some documents on autism describe me exactly and others seem to not describe me at all. Good luck with creating a book specifically about your son :) I don't ...

I do the same thing you do with sounds, and sometimes I get words stuck in my head and say them out loud to myself if I'm alone or I just say them in my head over and over.

'Borderline Aspie' is probably a label made to solve the problem of the fuzzy cut off point between normal and abnormal/pathological. The funny thing this thread shows is that it's not clear what 'Borderline 'is either. I think I could be thought of as borderline, as I seem to have a lot less proble...

I thought they had set it up in that way to show how autistic people react so differently to things than NTs, for example if they had sat the people in a more autistic friendly way such as round a table (insted of in a circle face to face) then people would not have shown up their disability, its o...

Like Noncon4mist, I really empathised with Ben and felt sorry for him - I nearly cried watching him! I used to be very miserable, like him, and I used to threaten suicide. I found it interesting that his mum said he's never hurt himself though - I've done a lot of self harming (and still self-harm ...

Diagnosises? The plural is diagnoses :)

Mine are:
Asperger's Syndrome (2010)
Anxiety NOS (Saw it on my GPs computer when I last went to see him, it was probably put there this year when I explained I've had anxiety problems for a long time)

yellow = pus, vomit, infected/toxic waste disposal bins, NOT sunshine (sunshine is white)

Bit of confusion--the original question on routines was jametto's; I think the quote tags got mixed up in there somewhere.

Ah, sorry I'll fix that. I did wonder why you were asking if you knew the criteria!

I can't really judge how badly I'm affected. I was not diagnosed until age 18 and many people said I wasn't impaired so this would imply I'm mildly affected, but when I was diagnosed I was said to have many more of the diagnostic criteria than are necessary for a diagnosis. From my understanding, I ...

Do you explain why you tell him not to stim in public, so he can make decisions as he gets older? I am 19 and I have decided to 'act autistic' when I'm at uni because people there don't seem to care.

I've had similar things; things getting worse. A psychologist told me that as we get more stressed we get more autistic. Adolescence is very stressful.

I read it in a newspaper article about Dali, and it made me laugh, because I expected to read a more complex reason for being different from a madman. I can be thought of as 'mad' in both the sense of being eccentric and having mental health problems (and autism, if you count that as 'madness' - I d...

I was self-diagnosed and then paid to see a psychologist who specialised in Asperger's Syndrome for a diagnostic assessment, and was then diagnosed. In my opinion, this shows self-diagnosis should not be dismissed, as it shows I diagnosed myself with a condition I do indeed have. I have known others...

Kajjie, that's really funny, because yes, one of the most common ASL signs for Deaf is exactly what you just described as the BSL sign for hearing! The ASL sign for hearing actually refers to speech, which becomes interesting when an individual can hear but not speak. It's one of those cultural evo...
