Good answer. Moving house can involve an eye-wateringly huge amount of hard work. I think I'm too old to sell my UK home.

.........presenting a defense that emphasizes his alleged humanity Trump a human being? Now that's a new one. 8O Love the back-covering use of the word "alleged." Can't be too careful. I like the compromise idea though (had to skip to the end of the page to find it). All charges dropped, ...

There was a sign at a pool where I grew up; it said WELCOME TO THE OOL. It then said the only thing missing is the P; let's keep it that way Ah, the wonders of propaganda. Draws public attention and makes them laugh with the signwriter, not at them. Wouldn't work on me, but then I wouldn't ...

IMHO, the best scenario would be how things are now, except with a much better ND representation.

That thought had crossed my mind, and I can't think of anything that would be better.

I had put my home up for sale while I was still living in it. A guy turned up with his family to look at it. He asked me, in a roundabout and suspicious-sounding way, whether the price was fixed or negotiable. I felt he was trying to get me to agree to a large price reduction before he'd even looked...

For me the problem is about balancing attention for the animal with everything else I've got going on in my life. I've got a cat these days, and she doesn't like me being so busy. It worked better when there were 2 cats here, but one of them died. I'd get another one but they'd be unlikely to get on...

Society would eventually break down because no one would be able to overcome their olfactory sensitivities long enough to even collect the garbage.  Same for filling potholes with hot, stinky asphalt.  Other sensory issues would inhibit maintenance of other infrastructure systems, no doubt. I thoug...

I think it's potentially harmful to other pool users, though I don't know to what degree - presumably there are many actions which, while not specifically illegal, risk other people's health just as much, but I've made no special study of it. I gather there are some infectious life forms that are re...

That watch sounds interesting. Can it sound an alarm to wake you just after the end of a REM cycle? I read a long time ago that they used to do that in "dream laboratories" so the sleepers could remember their dreams better, having just woken from REM sleep, because people tend to forget t...

Celery I suppose it's OK but personally I don't bother with it. Broccoli Good stand-in for when I can't get spinach for my taters recipe Not bad mixed with other things, mildly disgusting alone. Natto Never heard of it. Sushi Heard of it but don't know what it is, and somehow not attracted. Licoric...

Now he tells me. My first reaction to this trial was "wake me up when they've got a verdict." Why didn't I have more faith in that? I usually do. I've never in my life stayed up to watch the election results coming in. Good job I didn't bother trying to learn the names of all those charac...

I think it is too easy to say IQ is meaningless. For me, one way it matters is that it helps me to explain to my two sons who struggle with school that they are not “dumb” or “stupid”. In fact they have above average intelligence but also have specific areas of challenge. (One is diagnosed ADHD and...

The thing is that not all smart people are good teachers. Sometimes we just know things intuitively, or we don't have the vocabulary to explain to someone else. If it works that's great, but knowing and teaching are two different things imo. Come to think of it, I saw evidence of that in the univer...

There was one idea I quite liked - to get the hyper-able one to help teach the others when they'd completed their own work. That way, the "gifted" one had something to do that didn't pull them away from their classmates. I suppose the downside is that their classmates might start resenting...

I see it as being to do with under- and over-explaining. I certainly have a strong tendency to explain in more detail than most people do, and I need things explaining to me in more detail than most people do. Nobody's exactly right or wrong. It's not my fault that I don't know what they're on abou...
