Forum: General Autism Discussion Topic: How are autistic people fundamentally different than NTs? |

It's something very fundamental that few people seem to realise. The social difference in collaborative efforts versus a preference to do things alone is more of a consequence of this difference. My experience agrees with that. People have assumed I simply want to be alone. That's nonsense. It's ju... |

^ Autodidact is a new term for me, but it's pretty clear that I am one. I suppose if anybody had been paying attention they'd have told me that years ago, but the Big People I met didn't have a broad enough outlook. So they concluded that I was just playing the fool and would one day wake up and rea... |

No, nothing like that has ever happened to me. I really wanted it to when I was a teenager, and I looked around for some kind of good evidence of the supernatural, but I failed to find any. Later on I discovered Derren Brown, James Randi, and Richard Dawkins, who present some strong arguments that i... |

I've never used hand sanitiser and hope I never have to. Soap and water is better time-tested for safety and is often more effective. Using sanitiser carries some risk of dermatitis especially if used a lot, and the higher the alcohol content, the greater the risk, and (unfortunately) the lower the ... |

The biggest goal I have achieved is finishing my Bachelor of Psychology. It took me a bit longer than most people to finish it. This was because I had trouble with my mental health during it, and I ended up in hospital a few times. Uni kind of burnt out my love of reading given the amount of readin... |

I agree projection can be a factor. Sometimes the misconstruction may be innocent too. But I think if only people didn't jump to conclusions, there'd be less of a problem. It's hard to misconstrue anything if theories are owned as theories instead of being touted as facts. |

^ Ah, if the thread's about the general impact of IT, and not just its effects on music, that's a bit scarier. Businesses and governments can be draconian bastards, and the thought of them having the technology to wield even more power over us is as worrying as the thought of a criminal having the t... |

My guess: it's because people are good at misconstruing things and assuming what they have no right to assume. Even if they had science degrees they might well not bother to use critical thinking to figure out the difference between what they know and what they don't know. And many people have such ... |

A very long video wasn't playing the soundtrack, so I've just fixed it by transcoding the .opus soundtrack to .aac and replacing it in the video file. And it's not even 10am yet. |

^ Overwhelm is a key word with me and goals - i.e. the thought of big goals overwhelms me. So I just do small steps. I suppose I do achieve big goals eventually, but I prefer it if I'm not conscious of them. Just looking at the distance I'd have to cover to get there would make me feel ill. I'm bett... |

What kind of things that happened in the distant past have you been wasting an unhealthy amount of time and energy obsessing over? None really. I've been known to get quite obsessional about my past, but only out of interest in my own history. There was a time I'd forgotten a lot of it, and had nev... |

I don't recall blaming myself much for my troubles, such as they were, before being diagnosed. I was more likely to blame other people and bad luck, particularly capitalism and the alienated nature of city life. Not that I've ever felt particularly unsuccessful in my life endeavours. After the diagn... |

It used to be easy, especially when they first started online banking. Just enter username and password, and you were in. Now they've made it much harder and I dread it. I got the Covid vaccine 3 times, but would have avoided the AstraZeneca type because I knew about the rare blood clot cases. It would have been no big issue to take it if that's all they had, because the risk was no greater than the risk for a lot of medical interventions. But in the USA where I was... |

I would say it's fairly normal, i.e. no more robotic than most people when they record their voices, but not as intoned as an actor or somebody who's used to recording spoken word. |
