I'm no expert on that war, but to me the Guardian looks somewhat biased towards Israel. Not for the first time either: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12636545/cartoonist-steve-bell-refuses-apologist-anti-Semitic-Netanyahu-sketch.html Steve Bell's cartoons have always been pretty vicious bu...

I was in Leicester, UK between May and September this year, and the nearest thing to fascist activity I noticed was one night when there was a police presence around a mosque and they'd cordoned the area off and detoured the traffic. No incident, but the cops weren't taking any chances. The media se...

Not the best solution for the need to emotionally connect. But until I can learn to become a hermit and live with being lonely, it's all I've got. I kind of wish I could get my brain to believe the illusion that ChatGPT is human. It would be some comfort during the long spells of solitude I have to...

Perhaps someone can explain to me how... Or why... God would have a gender? Because he is the artificial creation of a patriarchal society? Pretty much, I think. Many theologians see God as without form and therefore genderless, but in a patriarchal society, assigning maleness to God would have mad...

You cannot point to any one system and say, ah ha! These people are always good and never do anything wrong. Agreed. Considering the heaven-or-hell incentive, it's something of a mystery to me why those who believe it don't behave any better than atheists. Somebody did a survey or two that made it ...

What exactly is your point Fenn? I re-read your post 2 x and I can't decipher it. I think Fenn's point is that science isn't the answer to getting world peace. I think he's correct, but I don't know of anybody who thinks it is, so it's something of a straw man argument. I may be wasting my time say...

I think it was Alan Watts who said something like "technology in the hands of people who don't realise that they are one and the same is destructive." And most of us are maniacs who don't realise that. I'd say science is a powerful tool that can be used to do good or harm. If a hateful per...

Even he wasn't supposed to know when the world will end, so why have some many religious doomsayers claim they know the exact date when it will? Yes, according to scripture he said only his dad knew, but scripture is so open to interpretation that some idiotic religious leaders think they can calcu...

I wouldn't ban it if I had the power to, but I'm not really a fan. We barely used to do Halloween in England when I was young, but at least what we did was nothing like so stereotyped as the modern version which seems to have crept in from the USA, with its orange Wal-Mart pumpkins and other baubles...

I have similar trouble refusing the demands of others, but if I start to feel that complying would lead me into serious misery then it becomes easier to say no. Even then I hate to disappoint them, but it helps me to have a few polite phrases of refusal ready. And when I'm able to cut through my bla...

Interesting. I've never used the voice mode, but with the text mode I irrationally keep finding myself thinking of ChatGPT as a "she." Personification is a strange thing.

I never consciously thought of using it for fun, but depending on your definition of fun I might have found that in using it. I gather some psychologists reckon that being challenged to think and to learn something new is a core feature of fun, in which case I've had fun with ChatGPT. I've asked it ...

In my case the theory seems to fit the observable facts. By most criteria I'm in good shape for my age, and I drink more tea than anybody else I know, because I like the stuff. It's almost like a stim. But frankly I doubt that it makes a great deal of difference. It might help a little bit, but I ex...
