I don't think that being strongly scientific-minded precludes thinking outside the box. As for some of us believing the news 100% and others disbelieving it 100%, my own view is that the news is a mixture of truth, lies, and bias. |

^ Yes. I think the problem with fire alarms is that they go off so often when there's no fire that it leads to complacency. Especially when the weather's uncomfortable. At the university where I used to work we had tons of false alarms. There was some problem with the alarm system being too sensitiv... |

Stargazer99 wrote: ToughDiamond wrote: A tornado missed me by 9 miles. That is a good thing, indeed. Spring weather can be volatile. It was good when the alert was over. Electricity blipped out for a minute or two but came back on. |

So far today, I've got out of bed, got dressed, made a cup of tea, drunk it, started my laptop, and pressed some keys. It's rather a heavy laptop and I had to carry it to my bed. It’s Saturday and I’m having a tough time getting going. Hopefully tonight I can muster the energy to go to the gym. We ... |

I would trade my soul for a girlfriend even if that girlfriend was a demon I don't even care I just wish I had a girlfriend and I would trade salvation at this point for it, because loneliness is as bad as being burned alive and tortured and hell to me. I'd say be careful what you wish for, though ... |

^ I've pulled myself out of a lot of elephant traps too. But I'm not especially grateful to myself. I mean what else was I going to do, leave myself to rot? I think there's this useful thing called realism, where we give credit where it's due, instead of just selectively looking for good in people. ... |

No, I'd never heard of it either till I saw this thread and looked around. Apparently it's been a big thing in the media. That explains why I've never heard of it. I don't bother much with the media. I don't see any proposed mechanism for this gratitude thing improving mental health. It seems more a... |

I'm not much of a one for gratitude. The Big People used to tell me I should say thank you, so I learned to do that mostly to avoid their wrath. I'm not sure I believe that it does much good to be more grateful. You feel what you feel, and you don't feel what you don't feel. Usually I appreciate it ... |

It feels weird not being perfect or the best now In my old primary school I always had the best scores and stuff but now I'm in a grammar school I'm the bottom of the class At first I blamed it on the fact that you can't be the best in a school with all the best people but I still was one of the be... |

Yes the rules largely don't apply to the rich and powerful and never really have. After all, they make the rules, we follow. I believe that authority figures & the rich & powerfull need to follow their own rules & set an example of what others under their power & influence should do... |

Bestiola wrote: ToughDiamond wrote: A tornado missed me by 9 miles. Wow As far as I'm concerned, the little furry beasts. Tornadoes are a pain in the butt at the best of times. Chances of being hit by one are pretty remote, but the necessary running for cover just in case is no fun at all. |
