Tonight I was watching some videos of someone feeding bugs to a Venus fly trap. I wonder sometimes how vegans feel about such plants. Do they think you can just feed it tofu instead of bugs? I think the plant would die from malnutrition. Also it would kind of make it a cannibal. But not really if i...

Oh dear. It must be horrible to be told you didn't approach her when you did. Sounds like you need an advocate to clear this mess up. Is there any way of having another round of discussion with them on this "write-up," or do they see it as a closed case? Clearly, it's not logically closed ...

My impression from that was that he was talking about people in the abstract and from a religious POV - not from a first person, personal perspective. It's the things that the person is saying that are dissociative, in that they require parting with reality in order to hold those beliefs. And the b...

The next total solar eclipse in the United States will occur in northwest Alaska on March 30, 2033. Eastern Russia will see it too. Nome, on Alaska's Seward Peninsula, is on the centerline and slated to receive two and a half minutes of totality. (Nome is home to the Iditarod's finish line.) Total ...

"Wise Head"? 8) :nerdy: Well done, you got it in one 8) Strangely enough, it was originally sold in Japan where the pun would have made no sense at all unless their English was a lot better than my Japanese. Apparently the owl in Japan is very much a symbol of wisdom and other fine things...

Fun fact: In Leicester, Belvoir Street is pronounced "Beaver Street." Nobody knows exactly why, but it's thought that people with the local dialect may have found it easier to say it that way. Not unknown for French words (especially names) to be pronounced differently in English, eg &quo...

^ It's impossible to live in a way that subjects nobody else to any risks at all. It sounds like your "crime" is too tiny to count. Every time somebody drives, there's a small risk they'll hit a pedestrian, but hardly anybody refuses to drive on the grounds of that. You can still pass on a...

Paid-for VPNs are generally thought to have better privacy, security and functionality than the free ones, but they still might not be perfect in those respects. If you're particularly loathe to pay, I've read that ProtonVPN, Windscribe and TunnelBear are worth considering, but I've never used them....

^ That's a pity. At work my colleagues often moaned about the way the management jerked them around, but they were very reluctant to even ask for anything to be done about it. Some were scared of being victimised for it, and some appeared to feel it was somehow immoral to fight the management. But t...

I have no solution to offer, only sympathy. If they'd done that in my workplace I'd have been very upset. It's a rotten thing to happen and I wish employers wouldn't be so top-down and capricious with decisions that could give some employees an awful lot of misery. I suppose you could ask the boss a...

^ I presume that's an American celebrity. Don't know him. But I have heard of a band called Zed Zed Top. They might find it amusing. Even Brits know Jay-Z. And even old timers like us who are not into rap have at least of heard of him! A long time major rapper (and producer), who also married Beyon...
