Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Is this abnormal for an autistic person?

I wish there's a badge that says 'this autistic has no social interest and is upfront asocial' and 'this autistic is socially emotionally driven and is a lonely soul' instead of stereotyping with the former or projecting by the latter. That reminds me of a supposed counselling expert who tried to r...

I hadn't noticed particularly. If so, it's ironic - I thought they were supposed to be the amazingly empathic mind-readers and we were the ones who thought that everybody feels the same way as we do about everything. Not that I especially believe that. I think most people project. Somebody really li...

Nothing abnormal about an Aspie feeling lonely. Some don't, but many do. I start feeling very down if I'm denied meaningful human contact for more than a few days. I even suspect that those who claim not to need friendship may have simply given up, may be suffering from a degree of alexithymia so th...

It'd be interesting to see how that's going in a year or two. Its use is supposed to be for ruling out autism, but it's only 92.5% accurate and even that hasn't been peer-reviewed. Pity about the 7.5% or more who might get wrongly ruled out. I don't like screening tests. Too many people get thrown t...

As far as I know, "gal" is just the female form of "guy." But they call anybody a guy these days. They don't call males "gals" though. Don't know why not.

There was no "gender reveal" party when my son was born, but the world didn't collapse. I don't think GRPs had been invented then. We just told people who wanted to know that he was a boy, though it was fairly obvious from his name. Turned out we were right about that. It's probably mostly...

My favourite person is me. The only person in the world for whom I have complete, absolute empathy. I always feel bad when I feel bad, and good when I feel good. I understand what I'm trying to say even before the words come out of my mouth. I'll never leave me and that's 100% mutual. Still, when I ...

^ Well, the "gal" thing was 40 years ago, and the "India" thing could have been misconstrued. Many companies are notorious for outsourcing their "support" to India because it's cheap, and cheap services are usually poor services. I think timf may have worded his post a ...

I've got until October I think before windows 10 goes You're right, in the sense that Microsoft will end free support then. But there are alternatives to buying a new computer: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/08/08/windows-10-end-of-life-microsoft-support-october-2025/ Personally I d...

No, I'm an unashamed cheapskate. And I don't have money to burn, that's for sure. But if the product's quality truly justifies its high price, I might buy it if I stand to benefit from doing that. But the top-of-the-range things I've looked at haven't often seemed very good bang for buck. Have you s...

He makes an assertion, you ask why he thinks it's so, and he won't answer. My guess is that he was lying in the first place and your probing caught him out. In my experience it's very common for service "providers" to use lame excuses to palm people off with nothing. Well done for going ov...

^ It's marvellous at answering questions about command-line stuff, and it does just as well with questions about every computer language I've asked it so far. It's also very good at explaining how to do things with apps when you're stuck. Often much more efficient than using a search engine and sift...

I generally talk quietly. I seem to have this feeling that it would be a better world if everybody did, and if noise pollution was cleaned up more vigorously. To my mind there's something wrong when everybody's raising their voices to be heard against everybody else. But I'm well able to sing loud i...

It works both ways. Others typically feel disconnected or "misaligned" to you too, but because they're in majority you are the "wrong" one. Don't let that get to you. Indeed, several thinkers have said words to the effect that the majority can be a very stupid animal. I base a l...
