Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: During divorce: were you "penalized" for having ASD?

I don't see how the court would even know you had ASD, or care about such relatively small matters as those you mention. Many divorces don't involve personal appearances in court, and even when they do, legal proceedings tend to be very calm, orderly, clear, detailed and precise, which is often the ...

I wouldn't have thought there was much risk of that, assuming divorce law is the same where you are as it is in the UK. It's a fairly mechanical process unless there's a complicated fight about division of assets or custody of children. I suppose a spouse might try to claim that they've sacrificed l...

That alone would explain his hallucinations. I hope he doesn't drive.

I am, but only in principle. In practice I've always got more important things to spend my money on, and crowds spoil my enjoyment of shopping. Then there's the sensory risks of new clothes. And the problem of finding anything that's perfect for me. Most things, I just think "they've got to be ...

Wonderful. To celebrate, I think I'll CAPITALIZE a LOT of the WORDS in my posts and write COMPLETELY IRRATIONAL THINGS. I might even dye my skin orange and grow a comb-over. OTOH, I might just ignore the whole thing.

Can we have a Mother Theresa Day in the interest of checks and balances?

Oh well, I don't go out much these days anyway except for my daily half mile exercise walk. I usually do that by going to Walmart for groceries, and the website says they'll be open for business as usual. They haven't managed to commercialise president's day yet AFAIK, so I doubt it'll get in the wa...

I do that too, but I did even before the pandemic. Probably down to working in communal laboratories all those years. The pandemic reinforced it, and to this day I hate it when communal toilets are designed such that it's impossible to avoid touching the door handle on the way out. I was never comfy...

^ Yes the mail order thing and the death of the high street shops was no doubt accelerated by Covid - opinions vary about whether that's good or bad. Personally I quite like it because the high street shops had mostly become crap before the pandemic anyway, though I suppose losing them also chips aw...

Me too. If it's not part of the universe, I'm not interested.

Some people did suggest that Covid would teach us a few things that would lead to a better world. One of those things was that working from home would become the default way of earning a living. Might have slowed global warming down a bit, getting shut of all that travelling. But the bosses didn't l...

Seems to me that more than one universe is a contradiction in terms. Unus in Latin means "One." So if you found another universe (and I bet you won't), neither of them could rightly be called the universe any more. I suppose you could see it like the Holy Trinity, which they say is three g...

Never happened to me, but I can believe that kind of judgementalism happens. I guess all you can do is ask them how they come to their bizarre conclusions. For some reason a lot of people are in a tearing hurry these days, and they don't always think very carefully. But when it's a matter of weighin...

No, they think of me as the guy who plays the guitar and sings reasonably well. It's good to be typecast like that. Plus I'm married. But when I'm in the UK it's rather different, because the local music scene there is practically dead, apart from the expensive venues for "superstars," and...

Oh yes, always wise to have a wad of cash around in case the electronic system fails, and for - ahem - private transactions. Don't get it nicked though, and watch out - they sometimes change the style of banknotes and eventually make the old notes hard to spend. I've never known it happen in the US...

No, that would be like calling Joe Biden a communist.
