Possibly epithet (click) or sobriquet (click) ? That just about exhausts me unless you can give me a clue ("sounds like...") as to the specific word you're thinking of. Otherwise it's just an adjective used as a noun (click) --I don't know that it has a more specific name but I can ask my old H.S. A...

You may be thinking of synecdoche (click), although I'm not sure about your example. But maybe one of the linked words at that page will be closer to what you're looking for.

Good luck in your search for the mot juste! :D

My favorite quote was from my best friend.. Mine was from a nephew, who asked if I'd been buying my underwear at K-mart lately (a reference to "Rain Man" in case you're wondering). I LOL'ed. :P It's sad but true: the only things that some people think they know about autism came out of a Hollywood ...

Rejected, downplayed, outright ridiculed, even by immediate family members--I've been there and gotten my parking stub validated.

Some people's kids. [Sighs wearily.] It's enough to make you want to sell the farm.

Yes, but then a quote from a past bully comes to mind...
Quote:
CTBill, I don't care how smart everyone thinks you are--you're still ret*d.

That keeps my head from swelling up too much.

Thank you for that additional info. I've been on a "proper" SSRI (citalopram) since my diagnosis of AS but interesting to know why Chlor-Trimeton always seemed to have a positive effect on my general mood in addition to quelling violent sneezing fits and all the other fun symptoms of "hay fever." So...

Although not generally approved as an antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication, chlorphenamine appears to have these properties as well. It is a SNRI. See Wikipedia article here (click) . I've taken it for 30+ years for seasonal allergies and I get a slight sedative effect. When I was a tween, tho...

So babies were drugged back in the days so people would have their peaceful time in public and not suffer. I don't think it was that bad despite my earlier (hypothetical) postulation. I believe most parents were trying to alleviate their childrens' sufferings first and foremost, not their own. Besi...

I wonder how babies were kept quiet back in the days? Paregoric . It might even still be legal in some parts of the U.S. 8O How did that pill keep them quiet? I looked it up and it's used for diarrhea. It is a tincture (liquid) containing opium (think painkillers or heroin). Rubbibg it on a teethin...

Not "teaching me a lesson" specifically, but I did have one tell me he was punching me to "toughen me up," which I thought was odd because when my mom pounded meat in the kitchen, she called it tenderizing. :? I did have sense enough (that time anyway) to keep my thoughts to myself, however.

People with autism should be by themsevles for the rest of their livies because, they have no socal skills. :( Good thing I live in NorCal, I have no SoCal skills either... I spent a week in Sandy Eggo once. I learned to slam on the brakes at the slightest hint of water on the freeway. Does that co...
