I guess this is probably a question more for the adhd parents out there... I have a 17-month-old boy. It's foster care, we're trying to adopt him. We've had him since birth. He had "minimal" exposure to cocaine and alcohol in the womb and up until now he's been doing fine - very happy, very sociable...

No accent here... but I'm Canadian and I know a guy, likely AS/HFA, who's lived here all his life and he tends to talk with a southern-US accent - much like what you'd hear on something like the Andy Griffith show.

Hmmm, not sure how to put this all into words but we'll see how it goes... It's something that I've thought a lot about on and off, and it came to the surface again last night at work. I work in a group home and right now there's an extra person staying there for a couple of days (respite) - no dx m...

I usually feel the most normal (nt) first thing in the morning. As the day goes on it gets worse - I'm usually the most AS by the end of the day when I'm tired.

Thanks for that tangent Anbuend. I've seen you mention the subject before and always wondered what you could see in autistic people. A lot of it describes me pretty well and you're right, most people wouldn't notice that stuff. One question though, do you see anything unusual in autistic people's ey...

Yeah... I still keep holding out hope that with so many people on this forum, there's gotta be someone somewhere who can relate. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen though.

I just want to feel more of a...connection to him, I guess. Maybe I'm not going about it the right way, or maybe I'm wanting something he just can't give. I know he loves me. I just usually have to assume it, because while he will give hugs he usually gives tackling, too-hard hugs or vaguely leanin...

I always thought that it would be harder for the AS individuals to buck up in life, due to general awareness and knowledge of everything. You know what they say, ignorance is bliss! Just to clarify... what Techstepgenr8tion and I are referring to is people like ourselves who seem to fit the overall...

Too bad these threads never go anywhere. I've tried in the past too and never seem to get much response. I wish someone had some insight, because that neurological glass wall that keeps me from connecting with people around me on any meaningful level... the outer side of me always projecting the app...

i like its pressure, dislike it when rubbing my skin (i will often (unvoluntarely) put my hand between the belt and my neck) Me too. When people are talking about not wearing a seatbelt or taking it off, I say "But the seatbelt is the best part!" I always figured it was probably the pressure that I...

But that there can be significant patterns of areas of strength and difficulty in subtests among different groupings of autistic people. The subtest patterns end up supposedly being more important than the overall verbal vs. performance patterns. Do you know what those patterns are? Admittedly, the...

I've read that IQ type can be one of the differences in the great debate between AS and HFA - performance IQ higher in HFA, verbal IQ higher in AS. Does anyone know how big the gap usually is? My performance score is 10 points higher than my verbal score - not a very big difference. (I actually expe...

I think in a way we already have our own language. I know a few people who are very likely on the spectrum, and I can have whole conversations with those people where the NT's in the room can't follow the conversation at all. One of those people is my sister's husband. One time my sister said to my ...

It's kinda a given for people with Asperger's to offend people without meaning to, unless they don't talk to people. And many people will think that's offensive too--like you're too good to talk to them or something. That pretty much sums it up for me. I talk very little, which some people take the...
