Actually I have both SSI and SSDI, which means I get both Medicaid and Medicare for my insurances. I live in Rhode Island. 1. SSI is income based. Many people with disabilities receive SSI either alone because they never worked. Some people who get SSDI will also receive it in addition to their chec...

I actually developed something like that after the age of 20 because of a nervous breakdown from working at a Wal-Mart and being treated like crap (from both customers and management). I did get over it after a year, but it returned while I was living in a group home because of the mental, emotional...

I am so afraid of making other feel uncomfortable that I have to overplease them and may times I have to be certain ways and do things that does not feel right to me, just so I don't disappoint others. My entire life was based on doing things or being something that other would want me to be. I felt...

I also HATE being on benefits, which is why I am going to school. Like Pezar, I too was first place through the Developmental Disability system here in Rhode Island, which mostly provides programs for more lower functioning individuals. The program I was in was an Autism program, but it provided me ...

You have nothing to be ashamed about. There is no excuse for Hate, no matter how disabled someone is. I think this kid needs an education and to meet people who are gay to see how cool they are. I am a lesbian with Aspergers and I would never put up with that. Now maybe calling someone ret*d is bad,...

My advice would be, if you can manage to get on disability do it, so you can use that time and label to get collage grants and get an education. train in some job field you would enjoy that does not force you to socially interact to much. then once finished drop the disability and make your self pr...

Actually that's where you're wrong. I'm on ODSP which is Ontario's equivalent of America's SSD benefit and I get taxed on my income support benefit just the same as anyone who works for their money does. Being on any sort of government support geared towards the disabled isn't for lack of willingnes...

To be honest without, I feel that many mental illnesses out there are over-diagnosed, especially by greedy psychiatrists who want to make tons of money and other incentives from the drug companies to prescribe the medications. Unfortunately with a diagnosis of a mental illness one qualifies for soci...

Being on the spectrum with my comorbids of avoidant personality disorder and extreme depression probably makes me eligible for SSD. At my age I'd probably just get around $950/month. I'd still work but just not at my old nursing job. I wouldn't mind something a little more easy going, like working ...

I think it's offensive someone who could work would take government benefits. There are a lot of people who get up and go to work, deal with a lot of BS, all so they can have tax money taken out to pay these benefits. Those are for people who truly can't work, and even those people, I wish they wer...

I just graduated from a two year college and many of my friends, who are between the ages of 18-30 love Pokemon. They are members my college' anime club and a gamers club where many of the members love pokemon. They even play the games and the cards, as well as wear many of the accessories and they ...

Simple answer Ban the dsm from this country. We don't want to turn into what america is. Even if you look at it right now, do you notice the pattern of what UK has now turned into, turning into. I thought altruism was meant to be caring for the well-being of others. Seems your the opposite. I also ...

Now I'm cleaning up the mess that got made when I made the mistake of asking for help from idiots. It's because of the idiocy that I'd like to lose the diagnosis. What it costs me isn't worth any help it garners. It's not even worth the knowledge and understanding-- because, in fact, what I have fou...
