Sooo, can I become an alcoholic at 61 years of age? I am ODD so I was never able to hand my life over to anyone or anything, but lately, I have been handing it over to alcohol. I am scheduling binges (for me a binge is still pretty microscopic, but becoming a force in my life. I think it is seconda...

I think it helped me to stop thinking about drinking as a matter of will and character. I drank the most trying to convince myself that I could control it. Alcohol triggers something in my brain akin to compulsion and after that it's all over. I remember asking my brother if he felt an overwhelming ...

I was reading something recently that explained a lot about preferences in fiction. There is plot driven and character driven and those who favor plot driven over character driven are not going to enjoy books like "To Kill a Mockingbird". I enjoy both but I think character driven has done more to he...

Yes, the way it was explained to me personally by a psychiatrist is that you (editorial) have to work harder to process simple things because of executive functioning problems. The simplest things are exhausting for me. I'm a morning person but after a few hours I feel like I've been up for 2 days. ...

When I was young I heard the term "midriff bulge" and it intrigued me. I didn't know what it meant but it sounded interesting. So one day in first grade I said it out loud apropos of nothing. The teacher said "Melissa!" in shocked tones. I thought I had said something naughty.

You should be commended for making this known while you still can. It seems entirely possible to me that your disease will progress to the point where you will no longer be able to separate what is reality and what is not. Are you on disability? Can you check yourself into the hospital again? Why ar...

I read something interesting about sensory processing disorder, that part of the problem is a sufferer's body is unable to recover from the body's natural startle reflex.

My son had difficulty with noises when he was younger. He hated the bells but the fire drills were really bad for him. He figured out the schedule of when they'd occur. I came back from work early one day and found him at home when he was supposed to be at school. He knew there was a fire drill sche...

I know he needs cash now to feed himself, but for a longer term solution maybe someone could set up an escrow account and people could send contributions directly to that account to help pay off those fines. I know its a huge amount,( it's more than I make in a year - I'm poor), but it seems nothing...

It seems the powers that be think the poor should be punished for being poor. It's only getting worse too.

That was good information blueroses, thanks. I wonder if it's a matter of paying off fines. Do we know how much? That might be a useful thing to do for him.

I've read that alcoholics process alcohol differently than non-alcoholics and that the alcoholic's reaction time performance actually improves up until the "saturation" point, whereas the non-alcoholic immediately feels the sedating effects, and I experienced a similar boost. I've also read that al...
