I think there may be a problem with adopting pitbulls in GB...as in illegal. Some or all of GB has BSL against pit bulls. :( Excellent point about future expenses. Starting a savings account for the dog can really help with that. $20/month can mount up & then routine & emergency expenses won...

Of the two breeds you mention, Border Collies & BC mixes tend to be very energy intensive. They were bred to work all day & they still need that. If they don't have enough to occupy their minds, they often develop a lot of behavior problems. The Bernese Mountain Dog has a mellower dispositio...

I work as a dog trainer at our little local shelter, so perhaps I can offer some tips in selecting a dog. First off, whether purebred or mixed breed doesn't really matter. What matters is the individual dog's socialization history. And mostly in the shelter you're going to find mixed breeds anyway. ...

I'm just about finished w/the book & I'm a bit disappointed. Basically, there are only two chapters in which actual autists are heard from. Most of the book is a history of the research & experiments done TO autists, along with how the public opinion of autists was shaped (or mis-shaped). So...

What about magical thinkers that blame curses? That wouldn't necessarily have morality mixed in. Someone with powers hates you and so s/he cursed you. What about them? I'm not clear about what you're asking w/regards karma. I'm not asking anything that has to do with karma. I'm just pointing out th...

Technically, Karma is just the law of cause & effect as applies to the mental continuum of a sentient being. Of course, weird elaborations by the magical thinkers quickly make a hash out of something that is very straight forward & sensible. But cause & effect? I can totally be on board...

I wanted to be a veterinarian, but didn't have the grades to get admitted to vet school. Worked for 10 years in vet clinics, first as an assistant, then as a state licensed technician. Realized that I had made the right decision for the time...a lot of what the vet does is business management, which...

One thing that kind of intrigues me are Synchronicities. Basically coincidences that seem oddly related. Sometimes these events seem significant and sometimes mundane. An example would be that my birthday is July 13th and if on my birthday I bought something that rang up as $7.13. Or maybe if the G...

Good morning, nellah... Does seem like a re-orientation in mid-life is a good idea for Aspies. I know I'm much happier for having withdrawn from the rat race & worked to develop my own interests. I got into food gardening, moved to the country for the peace & quiet, started working more w/my...

Do a search on WrongPlanet for “Autistic Burnout” It’s a common topic around here. I’m not sure what I think of it, but it kinda rings true. http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt191301.html Hmm, looking briefly at some of those threads, I realize that maybe my 'flame out' around 40 was partly due to ASD...

At the moment I'm doing OK, but I've known others that kinda decomped around 50...I think menopause plays a part. I have noticed my ability to focus on tasks has decreased. And I do get less done during the day, but I'm retired so it's OK.
