Actually I was presenting the child as needing to be tested to find out what is going on. The attitudes in this post are why I stopped coming to this site for two years. I was tired of people treating me like some kind of demon because they didn't like their parents.

Well when my kids without asd are too rough I take their hand and firmly say no, then gently place their hand against my cheek and say soft. Even at a year old they seem to understand. It might help in this instance because it is mimicry.

No, she really is trying. If she does not like what she is being told she will make herself cry, as soon as the subject is changed she is miraculously happy as a clam. From some of these replies I feel I need to stress that she is not diagnosed. I am merely working from similarities to my son. Which...

I heard my fourteen year old talking to my five year old niece about Stephen Hawking in the other room. My fourteen year old is an Aspie and very interested in theoretical physics and astronomy. Niece: Who is Stephen Hawking? Son: He is a very important physicist, a theoretical physicist in fact. An...

So after calling the school to get all of this set up, now they are "swamped" and have to make their way through the three year olds for testing before they get to my niece who is five. So no idea when that will pan out. I guess I am going to have to look at other options, because there is no way my...

Honestly I have serious doubts that any special needs child should go to public school. Having ADHD it was terrible for me, and my fourteen year old did not fare well either. At one he was made to hold books over his head until he could barely hold a pencil after. In another he was babied to the poi...

Tampons are not giant torpedos darlings. They do not "bother" virgins. Tampons are only about as big around as a woman's ring finger.

Well I am not even ASD and I HATE pads. The plastic layer makes me feel sweaty and gross. I have always hated them. I would say if you are afraid of leaving something in too long, I would throw my vote in for reusable pads. Made of cotton or flannel you can even sew them at home yourself. You just t...

Well I called our local school district to try and set up testing. Naturally the head of their Special Education department seemed confused as to why I was calling instead of my sister... I just told her I was taking care of it for my sister as she was at a doctor's appointment at the moment. It was...

I suppose that could be true. To me though it just feels like I am doing what I need to do. I taught myself to cook and came to realize that I relish the creative outlet and it is a mode for me to express my affection for my family and friends. In addition it means we can eat healthier because proce...

I do not think that my sister is on the spectrum, but our parents were... very bad parents. Emotional and Physical Abuse, bad care takers... could not cook or clean house or would not. As a result we did not learn to do these things. Where I taught myself, she has not. At 31 she does not know how to...

Could you use a natural dye on some of the faded stuff? I say natural because a lot of the strong chemical ones smell terrible. Or maybe try kool-aid, that stains and smells fruity.

My nephew is a NT, and I'm a teenage girl with AS, but sometimes it seems the other way around (as in my nephew has AS and I'm the NT). I made him a ham sandwich, and he wanted a peanut butter and jelly. So he said I was "being abusive" to him and stood outside in the pouring rain until I dragged h...

If you re-read Where I put the comment about her intelligence level...It is one of the things making me unsure what the problem is. At any rate it is considered average or above not just above average to make the diagnoses. I am also aware that sometimes the things that a child with ASD misses can m...
