I bought an ammo can last month and used it as a reference for this model. Yep, I used 3ds Max with a plugin called DreamScape.
I just followed a tutorial for making a simple ocean mesh then tweaked it a bunch from there.

Trying to simulate an ocean now. Animated version is rendering now.
