I just revisited this post and I realized, Norway isn't in the EU. And I felt stupid. Anyway, carry on... :oops:

A. It's a road. That allows easier movement of goods within the existing trade regime. This is not the end of western civilization as we know it. Calm down. B. Look at the EU. They have open borders between the world's wealthiest nations (Luxembourg, Norway...) and countries in Eastern Europe about ...

I'm not sure, but I do know you should avoid buying one at bestbuy/ big box stores, they're like $15 bucks at least. Once I bought a generic firewire pci card off the web for $11 and it came with a free cable, so I'm sure you could find one for well under $10. Try Pricewatch.

David Bowie kicks ass. He released a hugely disproportionate amount of the great music that came out in the 70s. 80s Bowie is OK, but comparing him to his 70s self is like comparing modern-day Prince to 80s Prince: just not anywhere close. My favorite Bowie album is probably Lodger (takes the experi...

Firefox, in my opinion is the one program listed that unequivocally bests its commercial competitors. Certainly the open source program I use the most.

When I was a kid, the Beatles were the first kind of music I really got into. I don't know whether I liked music or not before I found the Beatles, but I certainly did afterwards. John is my favorite bandmember and Revolver is more or less my favorite album of theirs. Oh, and my screen name is a pla...

It's only the undisputably most awesome movie in existence. The bonus DVD that comes with some versions has a hilarious Japanese overdub of a few scenes back-translated with English subtitles that can't be missed.

One other thing I do is play this game with myself when I'm on the train, on a bus or in a car. I'll imagine a straight line going out from each side of the vehicle from where I'm sitting, and as streetsigns, pillars, etc, cross over this line I'll clench my toes on the side corresponding to the si...

Oh, and I suppose I'm a "lazy atheist".

Aww, thanks. I'm sure you're way cooler than I am. Truth be told, I saw the avatar on another board and thought it was so awesome I had to appropriate it.

3 person conversations I think strike a balance between having nothing to say because I need to direct the conversation more (me and 1 other person) and having so many people talking that it's hard to keep track of everything or get a word in (4+ people). I should learn to do one-on-one conversation...

Does anybody here like Amadou & Mariam? Malian blind husband/wife duo that sing in at least 3 different languages (mostly French or some west african language but a little English too). Super catchy. Most of the other foreign bands I listen too sing in English. Except Sigur Ros and maybe a few o...

Works on any repeating decimal sequence really;

let x = .3repeating
10x = 3.3repeating = 9x + x
9x = 10x - x
9x = 3.3repeating - .3 repeating
9x = 3
x = 3/9 = 1/3

A lot easier that using geometric sums, which is how I first learned to prove stuff like that.

Neat.

What it's meant to address is currently it is nigh impossible to fire a French worker, and this makes French employers very cautious about hiring. French society is very stratified between those who managed to graduate from the elite Ecoles and get lifetime jobs, and those who can't find work at all...
