Non-religious atheist.

I don't think I'd ever become an adherent of a religion, even if I did start believing in god/s.

I don't really know anything about Tao or Crazy Wisdom. Zen is, without doubt, the religion I find most appealing. I like a lot of the ideas in Zen, and the attitudes it encourages seem to be already quite in line with my own attitudes. Plus, it doesn't seem to demand all the ridiculous metaphysical...

In my opinion, pretty much all religions can be adapted to accommodate pretty much any behaviour. Throughout history there have been a few Christian heretical movements that have practised "free love" - see the Brethren of the Free Spirit and the Ranters, for example (both of whom did indeed argue f...

-- Almost all - possibly all - the religious people I know don't believe that others will go to hell for not sharing their beliefs. This isn't the Dark Ages. You haven't seen many religious people then. If a person doesn't see their chosen path as the path to salvation, however they seem the term, ...

No. However, I do think there's a significant chance of global societal collapse within the next couple decades.

religious people ARE annoyed when being confronted with atheism, and then they usually act intolerant by preaching nonsense and trying to convince and to convert… That almost never happens in my experience. Aside from the very occasional times I get Jehovah's Witnesses coming to my door, I've liter...

A man goes to brothel but he's only got two dollars. The clerk says, "no problem, just go upstairs, we've got a dead hooker." He comes down 30 minutes later and she asks him how it was. He says, "it was great, the only problem was her nose kept running." She says, "ah, she's probably full." An old m...

I don't think it's anymore "degrading" or "dehumanizing" than plenty of other jobs out there. There are certainly problems with porn, but most of them are a result of the socio-economic structure in general rather than something inherent to porn itself.

And since when is Lou Reed mainstream??? Granted, I don't believe Lou Reed belongs in a discussion of classical music. But Reed has always been firmly entrenched in rock and/or folk avant-garde. And I only say THAT because what he and VU did somewhat resembled rock and yet resisted both academic an...

Harry Partch was a genius, no doubt one of the most inventive musicians of the 20th century. I'm currently reading his book "Genesis of a Music"... I haven't read much of it yet; I'm still not past the part where he explores the historical development of music - which is interesting enough, but what...

Cage explored silence. Cage was more inteested in chance processes than silence. I mention it just because most people tend to know John Cage only for 4'33" , which I think is a bit tragic, because there's so much more to him than that (and even 4'33" , although it is completely silent and Cage's e...

They're far from my favourite female body part - I like face, feet, ass, legs, p****, and back more than them - but I wouldn't really say they're overrated, either. I love boobs.

I don't think there's anything wrong with incest. It's disgusting that it's illegal, but there are very deep reasons for its prohibition, and most people find it easier and more comforting to construct "rational" arguments to justify their strongest gut reactions rather than to seriously question th...
