My son ( who is 8 ) has Aspergers and we have homeschooled him right from the start. The pros are that he can learn things at a pace that is comfortable to him, in a style that works for him. Limited social pressure. We get to spend more time together, etc. There aren't too many cons as far as we're...

My story parallels yours in many ways, including stompbox building, (our paths might have crossed over at DIYstompboxes or Freestompboxes) Last year at this time I had all but givin up on doing anything with my music. I had sold my Telecaster, and my Blues Jr. I figured I would just play my lap stee...

It is fun to build this stuff, and it's a cheap hobby. physicsnut42, There was an interesting artical about building a wind turbine from an old DC motor (albiet a somewhat larger one) in Make magazine a few years ago. Our local library has back issues available, you might check yours, or it's probab...

I have played around with solar panels a bit. I made a real simple charger with just a panel and a diode. After the diode drop the voltage was just a little higher than the battery ( 12volts in this case) worked fine. Not a fast charge by any means but it got the job done. I made a solar cell phone ...

Not a kit, but I have had alot of fun with the projects in this book. The robots are pretty simple, but fun ( and cheap!) to build. Good information in general. http://www.amazon.com/JunkBots-Bugbots-Bots-Wheels-ebook/dp/B000WLLTH0/ref=dp_kinw_strp_1 Another good one is Robot Builders Bonanza, but t...

I have a Ham radio license ( General) also but I never transmit. I do enjoy DXing. I have a nice 80 meter reciever I built from scratch and It gets good reception. ( listened to 80 meter? talk about filthy language). I use to have an old AM radio that I was out of a car and I built a power supply an...

MY theory with BJT is pretty hazy. For switching applications I would usually go with a small signal mosfet, much less hassle. On the rare ocassions I have used NPN for switching I usually just copied a circuit that I knew worked. I seem to remember Darlington transistors working well in a stepper m...

I am currently working on a solid state guitar amplifier. I have breaboarded the design and now I am wiring it up on to perfboard . The power amp section is done and tonight I will work on the tone control and preamp. It puts out about 15 to 20 watts. The breadboard version sounded really nice. Can'...

I love the Dark Tower series! I am currently reading them again, after reading the new one ( The Wind through the Keyhole). I liked the stand too. I am thinking about reading Insomnia or Under the Dome next.

My 2 cents. Whatever kind of guitar you want (acoustic or electric) get a decent one. It doesn't have to be top of the line, but a poorly made guitar is no fun to play. If it's possible get a friend who plays go with you to pick out your instrument. A good local guitar shop can also help out. If gui...

I can "fake it" on piano, ukulele. bass guitar, well enough to play a bar gig.

I love this kind of music. Classic country is great. I personally think Garth Brooks put the last nail in the coffin of what I would call country music. There is still good stuff out there, you just wont hear it on most radio stations. A local collage radio station has a weekly alt. country show tha...

I work at a hardware store. It sucks but I have made some good friends, and the boss isn't too bad.

I am now also starting to make money playing music, but it's hard to think of that as work.

I wouldn't call myself a "collector" in the sense that I seek out rare coins, but when I find them I save them in a small box I have. I work at a store and it's amazing what you find in the cash register. My true (current) obsession is lap steel guitars. I have 13 most from the 40's abd 50's. The're...

Yes, myself and another guy play out. I sing all the hillbilly, and country music because that's the kind of stuff I grew up singing. My voice has what my wife calls a "natural swankyness" to it. When I was very young (about 3) I was in the hospital for about a week. My mom says that at one point sh...

I don't know how to post videos but I love the blues. I seen Buddy Guy in concert with BB King and he just killed. It was his show. That man can pull an audience in. His band could stop and start on a dime. Another guy to check out is Freddie Roulette. He plays blues on a lap steel guitar.
