I was looking down at a vinyl album I'd just purchased. The centre part said it was by John Lennon. It had two songs. The first one was 15:44 long, and called "The Transcendental Song". The gimmick was that it was totally silent. You were supposed to play the album and meditate in silence...

I dreamt I was in Paris watching a parade, and when a float with people dressed as popes cruised by, everybody sat down except for me and this old man next to me, who conspiratorially whispered to me, " when the French popes come by, everybody sits down except for us Samuels ." Fran...

Fun fact: There really is a town in northwest Bavaria called "Hammelburg". It really was the site of a German POW camp for allied prisoners. Patton's son-in-law was held there. So Patton sent a detachment of troops to attack the camp to spring his daughter's husband from the place...the Ge...

Well my take away was mixed emotions. I feel for the guy struggling to make a living. But I am delighted to learn that Americans really are coming to their senses, and are giving up tobacco ...in ways that are so measurable that...it drives people out of business. Europeans had consumed beer and win...

Here in Australia, I think just jacking up the price has helped. When I quit, about twenty years ago, a 50g pack of Drum was about $40. Now it's about $200. I still miss smoking, but I'd never take it up again, just because of price. Now smoking is so uncommon, I can't even find someone if I want t...

Hmmm... I guess you're right that those signs did say "sold".

But then they both diversified their meals beyond just burgers. And they thought it sounded less crass to say...we serve people...rather "sell burgers".

IDK how it would be enforced. And apparently peeing in the pool is very common, if you swim in a public pool its safe to assume there is pee in it, that is actually what that 'swimming pool' smell is at least according to something I was reading or watching. The "swimming pool smell" is f...

I didn’t know that “Blackbird” was about civil rights. That’s very interesting. I probably should’ve known since it’s one of my favorite songs. I just found out recently myself. Gosh. Really? 1) you're a fellow Americans. My teen self guessed that that was the underlying meaning when the albu...

Astromers are just zig-zagging back and forth. For decades they called Uranus and Neptune "gas giants" in the same family as Jupiter and Saturn. Then they started calling them "ice giants" because they seemed to be made mostly of frozen water and frozen other things. Now they are...
