I have a question about diagnosis when there is no distress. My understanding is they don't diagnose autism without distress. Imagine two people X and Y are equally autistic one year and could be diagnosable if they sought it (depression, bullying, no friends, etc.). As years pass X gets lucky and f...

When you are little, your social interactions are more about things than people. Your friends are the ones with the coolest toys, and when you visit a friend, it's not so much about the friend's company but more about what games you can play with the friend, what toys you can play with together. IE ...

If the FBI contacts you, whether in person, by phone, by mail, or by carrier pigeon, I recommend that you do not answer any questions. Ditto cops, etc. There is no legal requirement to talk, and at best all you will do is not say something that gets you in trouble, and worst you'll say something tha...

I honestly don't remember all that detail. I was a toddler, afterall! But I do recall my mom later saying that I was the model child at home: never cried, never misbehaved, etc. But at the first day care, the owners claimed I had major problems. Given the difference of that vs. how I was at home, my...

The responses are not what I was hoping for. I'm not really looking for how to diagnose a 3 year old. Rather, if a 3 year old has Asperger's what day cares would work and what would not, even if certain NT personality types would also have the same results? I'll spill the beans on what I'm getting a...

Good point on Montessori. I never considered it, but it makes sense to me considering its method of letting you do your own thing rather than being forced by a teacher. I recall going to two pre-schools. The first one told my parents that I had the most severe behavior problems of all the children. ...

I read that Asperger's is typically not noticed until later in life, like late elemenatry school to even adulthood. I'm curious about noticing signs in very young children, like age 2 to 4. Most specifically I'm curious if there are types of daycare environments that bring out the the worst in an as...

Seeing that video made me wish I had the fortitude to do that to my bullies back in the day. Though unfortunately they all tended to be larger than me rather than smaller, so probably wouldn't have been as good an outcome as this kid had. I'm glad he struck back. I'm pretty sure that research has sh...

Wish that it were multiple choice for interests over the years:
* Computers - #1 most persistent interest so I voted that
* Math
* Music, particularly trombones
* Cats
* Sci fi / fantasy / fiction, primarily Piers Anthony, Tolkien, Greek mythology, and Hardy Boys at various times
* Philosophy

Sarcasm, parody, and obscure. Here are two obscure examples. 1) Why do programmers confuse Halloween and Christmas? Because Oct 31 == Dec 25. 2) Thoreau wrote a joke in Walden. He grew beans to sell and experiment in self sufficiency. So he jokes that he had no intent of eating them on account of be...

I dislike bright sunlight, and the worst is when a cloudless day has the sun reflecting over a landscape covered with white snow. If I am indoors and immediately change my focus to a wide open view of such a landscape (like a bay window or walking outdoors) then it's so bad that I feel physical pain...

Nope. The closest I ever got to that was big toe sucking in the crib, which I can still remember. The toe just tasted so good. I can still remember the flavor nearly 30 years later!

Handyman or one of its specialties like house framer. Often in such a job you can work alone with no partner. You get to take things apart, learn how things work, etc. Attention to detail is a plus in that line of work. I think that it'd be fun! This pays the bills assuming that you didn't waste mon...
