 Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Why dont you make eye contact

my discomfort with eye contact stems from a combination of factors: a) it's hard to look at a person's face and hear what they are saying at the same time, it's just easier to pay attention if i look away, usually at a blank surface like a wall or the floor--then i can concentrate on their words; b...

UGH , but also any nice lake, especially if anything touches my legs while swimming, like seaweed or just anything.... just *PANIC* yuck creeping myself out just thinking about i...

If I am understanding you correctly, then ---I do this,{but I've just never given it any thought before....or tried to describe it}

I put just my toes on the floor, which is usually easy, as I have short legs. It makes it easier to do my other habit, which is bouncing my leg.

I don't understand how some of you ladies have no social life,and still manage to find a husband. were you social before you meet your husband. He chose me. I accepted him. We met at a vocational training course, and I had a small dog that I had to let out and walk at every break in the classwork. ...

very weird you would bring up this topic, because I was just complaining to my husband about feeling this way.... It is so very frustrating, and as he has been sick for almost a year, and been to many doctors, you start to realize that miscommunication can be more than frustrating, it could potentia...

I'm an adult, diagnosed, female aspie. I do not socialize. At all. Nor do I want to, and I am old enough that nobody can really make me, either.

Edited to add: I am married. Husband is allowed to have friends, but don't drag me into it - no "couple's night" or whatever it is that NT's do.

yes, I get seasonal affective disorder bigtime . I now take mega doses of vitamin D3, after a blood test revealed that I'm way too low, and I've found that has helped my S.A.D. very much so. Wish I'd known that years ago. Doesn't help that I was born in the middle of winter in Seattle to a depressed...

yes, as a child, the bully was at home. I was mostly ignored in school. I am an adoptee, and the adoptive "mother" has her own issues. I honestly think she is borderline.... but she certainly was not equipped to raise a child like me. Because of the abuse, I went to live with a step-dad when he divo...

I don't even care to use the term " Asperger Syndrome " in conversation, because A ) people insist on pronouncing it Ass-Burgers and B ) because the media persists in associating it with psychopathy and violence. If my disability requires discussion, I always call it " a form of autism ," because t...

I relate to everything in the OP, and in a nutshell, I'd just say that I'm supposed to care and intuit everyone else's feelings, and be sensitive to them, always be cheerful, positive and polite, but everyone else {or society at large} doesn't give a rat's azz about MY feelings. I'm supposed to just...
