The best test I've seen is definitely the ADOS.

A third option would help dramatically. Either some sort of 'other' of 'I don't want to say' Expectations? Females are mellower, males are more aggressive. Females quieter, males louder. Males are expected to do more of the "butting into conversations inappropriately, and talking over you"...

I am completely open about my autism, and happy with the results. I'm open in interviews, open with coworkers, open with students, open with people I know socially (online or in person). I don't actively tell people right away, but it always comes up, because really, special interest, it'll come up,...

I hope it's not rude, do you mind my asking why you prefer that? There are a lot of stereotypes of people in general due to their sex and gender, and there are a lot of stereotypes of people in regards to autism, when it comes to their sex (less gender but some). Gender-fields are rarely friendly t...

We have a larger percentage active here female than the 4:1 diagnosed professional with ASD, which could also lead to even more talk about sensory processing. I've always wondered how people know how many females, or makes, are here. I don't even see it in the profile anymore. Do you know? No clue ...

The research in the sensory processing disorder area says that 75-80% of those with an ASD have clinically significant sensory processing impairments (and would be diagnosable with SPD). Not all, but a large majority. I've also read research that says that females with autism tend to have more signi...

I would also recommend looking into RAD - not just your upbringing but your descriptions about interacting with others make me think of RAD first.

You were speaking by age 3 even if it was echolalias speech. No language delay is what separated "Autistic Disorder" from "Aspergers Disorder" back then. In speech/language development, it's not just the ability to reproduce sounds that's important. If comprehension and communic...

http://www.stimtastic.co/ is where I look for chewable stuff - I've not put in an order, but they have stuff that looks nice to me, and they explain what level of chewing stuff should get! The reason I've not ordered anything from them is because I feel like when I do I'll spend too much money.

I don't do that in particular (because I've scripted replies, and if I reply with any I reply with scripted replies). I however am echolalic, and the other autistic adults I know include people a lot more echolalic than me.

I voted no. I personally would like to know the cause, but I wouldn't want the cause to be generally known to everyone, because then researchers would have a jump on learning how to "fix" us, which I have zero interest in. I read a fascinating and disturbing novel called "Speed of Da...

Hanging quilts or carpets, and generally putting as much against the walls is really generally where to go. Foams are good, but harder to do quickly and easily, while hanging a quilt you can do easily and cheaply (used quilt that is going cheap, might be stained, just use it for sound insulation by ...

I think it isn't a useful place to spend money. I think the money going into research on the cause would be better spent on things that actually help autistic people. That said, I am interested in knowing the answer. I just don't want us to find the answer. (I am also terrified of people aborting ju...

Typing is so much easier. It's like my fingers understand my thoughts and my voice does not. And then on top of that, my voice gets confused, and I have to try to figure out what it actually wants to say. And then I get lost and spend all sorts of time struggling out its words. I end up saying thing...

But flexitarianism means flexible vegetarian, which does make sense because it is about rationing. Not all has to be black and white. Omnivorous is indulging all sorts of foods solely on appetite. Eating vegetarian five of seven days is moderation. That is the point of flexitarianism. You don't hav...

Ovo-lacto-vegetarian. I assume if anyone says "vegetarian" without qualifiers they mean ovo-lacto, and usually don't say ovo-lacto, though if people talk more about food I will specify. Then there's the limitations due to sensory issues, but mostly its that I'm veg. (Also, I HATE the defin...
