induced? I ask because with my oldest son, he was a week overdue and needed to be induced. I am now 39 weeks with my 2nd son and am worried the same will happen again. I went to a breastfeeding class last night and I was reminded that oxytocin can induce labour.... There is a theory that those of us...

I believe one's level of intelligence comes into play here. The higher your intelligence, the better equipped you are to come up with coping/camouflage technqiues. Doesn't mean you aren't experiencing the same things though. My opinion. I think it is more a combination of cognitive abilities and th...

In general population, verbal intelligence has been linked to mouth looking, so people with higher VIQ tend to look at mouth, with emphasis on verbal communication. That is interesting! I wonder which one came first though.... Did we get distracted by mouths and hence increased our VIQ, or is it th...

distracted by movement? Being highly distracted by visual movement is a trait for those with an ASD, and yesterday when I was watching TV I realised that I tend to look at a person's mouth more than their eyes because there are more obvious and bigger movements going on there. There isn't really a l...

Eye contact feels too intimate for me, in a really wrong way, and I find it difficult to do. I do try to though, but it is a struggle. At its worst, I feel as though I am getting sucked into their eyes like some vortex and I need to break away from it asap!

Let's see, I learned to swim by my parents throwing me into the water, but I nearly drowned....so I guess...."don't throw your kid into the water." I really never knew it was common for people to have swim instructors to learn. I have always assumed it was something reserved for the rich? Hmm I am ...

I never passed swimming class in school because i couldn't do the kicking motion to move. All the instruction i ever received was to kick my legs up and down in the water and i would move even with my arms stuck on a flotation device so i couldn't do the crawl with my arms (which i could otherwise ...

...about ASDs and how to teach you, when you were a child learning to swim? (IF you were, of course). I am about to run a workshop for swimming instructors who work in mainstream swimming schools on what to know about teaching kids with an ASD. I have all my own notes, of course, but was wondering i...

I believe it is part of our quest for the truth. We need all the facts to understand something. Therefore we also give other people all the facts. I don't necessarily see them as "personal", I see them as facts. When discussing something, to hold back on facts is pointless to the conversation if we ...

My belief is that because we have to intellectualise almost everything we say and do, it can be overwhelming and exhausting. Also, doing these things takes us away from our comfortable environment of say, our special interest, or our areas where everything is set up in accordance to our sensory need...

Describing my meltdowns: For me, I feel as though I am completely overwhelmed and my mind just implodes, which can make me explode. I have all of this emotional energy thrashing around inside of me, attacking me, and I have no way to disperse it. It is attacking me from the inside, whatever it is th...

Yes, when I am explaining something, I use LOTS of hand gestures!! To me it links with visual thinking. Due to me having difficulty putting my thoughts into words, I try to "draw" them with my hands. I watched a video of myself doing a practice counselling session for my diploma and I could not BELI...

A visual chore chart in an area you hang around in often. Write the thing you need to do as soon as you know it on a post-it note, stick it up in your designated area. It will always be there for you to see until you actually do it. Then enjoy the satisfaction of removing it. It has taken me years t...
