I view Nietzscheanism as a failed attempt to instill meaning in a meaningless world. Yeah, he's pinning hope for humanity on strength, while simultaneously acknowledging types of entropy that can destroy almost anything (strong or not). But I think Rand is worse. And they're both better than mainst...

It's probably relevant that the Thomas Jefferson Foundation which is made up all the white descendants of Thomas jefferson and his wife officially recognise that Thomas Jefferson was the father of Sally Hemmings' children. I don't find any mention of that on their website, nor did googling their bo...

...it was established that black descendants of Sally Hemings carried Jefferson's DNA. The study authors had to retract that claim: It is true that men of Randolph Jefferson's family could have fathered Sally Hemings' later children [including Eston]. Space constraints prevented us from expanding o...

Jefferson started raping his 15 year old slave Sally Hemmings when he was in his 40s. It continued for several decades. Hemmings bore his several children of whom her descendants carry Jefferson's DNA. That's not quite true. Hemmings was a legally-free French resident living in Paris at that age, a...

Did they stop making them because they were unpopular or did people stop buying them because they just weren't being made? I gathered that they didn't sell well. I often think that what gets made isn't driven purely by popularity and consumer demand. A lot of people don't care about the keybaord, a...

In the past I've posted quotes and excerpts from Mencken and Machiavelli, but here are two from the opposite end of the cultural spectrum: The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conserva...

Republicans are still a majority in the House and in the majority of state legislatures, thanks to gerrymandering. So it will be a while, if ever, before Democrats can attain one-party control. Given that Republicans won the 2022 popular vote , you can't honestly attribute their majority to gerryma...

You do realise that large scale extraction equipment can't be deployed in every developing country right? Who pays for it? I spent a decade working in R&D and have lived in the Andes, so I'm decently familiar with what goes into building machinery and deploying it in remote places. Usually big ...

The OP's question would be a lot easier to answer if we defined terms. Who qualifies as a supremacist? Does it only refer to people claiming publicly that one group is broadly superior to every other, or deserves broad preference? Or does it include people using back-handed methods* to achieve the s...

a lot of electronic components made with coerced labor could be easily made without it. switching to ethical means of production/cultivation or mining means the cost is too high and the company simply can't compete anymore I can't speak for tea harvesting, but in the case of electronics assembly th...

It's not hard to imagine. We wear shoes/clothes, eat fruit/vegetables, drink coffee and tea and use tech with components that all rely on slave labour. Yeah, society as a whole is cold/callous. And senseless too, as a lot of electronic components made with coerced labor could be easily made without...

Jefferson wasn't half as hypocritical as Hamilton, who pretended to be an abolitionist but owed the entirety his wealth to marriage into a cynical family of slave-holders. Hamilton took part in managing their plantations, personally signing orders to buy and sell human beings. And while he did event...

Viagra for ED is definitely not covered by Medicare or normal insurance plans. It's only covered for its original purpose, treating pulmonary hypertension.
