Yes I'm a fan of Dawkins and enjoy his books on evolution. He's a great communicator of science but on the topic of religion he's very much confused and comes across as deeply muddled.

In a study mentioned in Attwood's book, people with AS score lower for envy/jealousy. There was even a little bar chart in the book showing the difference. It's related to theory of mind deficits. I think jealousy is a conditioned behavior. Being taught to think that you lost or failed because someb...

Yeah I know what you mean. I only recently started to appreciate this as I realized most of my high school friends and even my own immediate family now have kids who are growing up fast.

I'm sure NTs also experience this reality check.

A good well written apology. He's obviously sincere and I appreciate that he'd step up and try to right the wrong. I think some of you need to drop the cynicism.

I was like this until 2009. That was when someone I trusted started using the information I provided them with to harass me very persistently, ultimately precipitating depression and anxiety. There is a reason why you should hold your inner ideals / memories / hopes / goals and whatever else close t...

Two reasons I can think of: (1) we get out less, are less exposed to the sun, and therefore experience less photoaging. This guy was a truck driver who spent most of his life driving with the sunshine on one side of his face: http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.1089705.1338843771!/img/httpIm...

Read this article today called "Hikikomori: Why are so many Japanese men refusing to leave their rooms?".

A lot of it seemed consistent with Asperger's. What say ye?

Nice, sounds like a neat project good luck with it. For the DC motor control of the gravity-fed water supply, it sounds like "electric solenoid valves" would do the job. The 12v ones on ebay seem quite reasonable. This one below will open with low pressure water (0-0.8mpa) which should work with low...

As a kid all the kids on my street were 1 year older than me. They were ALWAYS explaining social rules to me and this was many years before I knew about AS. I just put it down to the age difference but with knowledge of AS it finally made sense. Honestly it helped me so much although it was hard at ...

Yep, good price. I'd be very interested to hear how you approach the watering side. My initial thought would be to use an inexpensive submersible aquarium water pump (a simple 200 litre/hour pump shipped from china is less than $5) inside a water reservoir. That could be switched on and off by ardui...

Arduino fan here. I keep ordering sensors and other arduino controllable components from China via ebay and it takes some time for them to arrive but they're so inexpensive and a lot of fun. Some of my favorite components include the mpu-6050 gyro/accelerometer, peltier/TECs, hc-sro4 ultrasonic dist...
