I find it all to easy to sympathize with this one...
I don't know how many times I've been driving along, and thought to myself "Self, how many people could this brick on wheels tank that is my van take out before any actual damaged occured to it?". Self usually replies "Not enough"...

Hey all, A little history always helps problems... or so they say... In 2005, I went to the Canada Wide Science Fair after winning all applicable prizes at my local science fair for the highschool level. It was an event that I loved, and want very much to repeat. However, in 2006, as had happened in... |

I would strongly suggest using a router, wireless or wired, as you main gateway, even if it is running Linux (OpenWRT or similar). I used to use a WRT54G for my main gateway - it was connected to the internet, and all my machines plugged into it, or got wireless from it. Now, I am far from the typic... |

I replied to a similar post earlier, but I cant find it right now, so I guess I know why you reposted :P Shorewall is your friend. Get something easy to work with - I prefer Arch Linux, as I can install it it under 15 minutes, including all updates, and it mantains itself fairly well over the long t... |

I'm 16, I've always had problems falling asleep. My entire life. I would honestly rather stay up all night, and be tired during the day, ... |

I hated school. I don't honestly see how people can enjoy it. They sit you in a desk thats too small and with a very uncomfortable chair, for 6 hours straight, with only a few breaks. They talk to you, drawing things on the board and overhead screen, making you read out loud, and all to often repeat... |

Thats highgly, highly screwed stats your getting :) Windows is cheaper for one reason, and only one reason: When you buy the computer, its got Windows on it (in most cases). Linux has to be installed. So: Windows install time, 0 hours @ 60/hour = 0$ Linux install time, 1 minute @ 60/hour = 1$ Linux ... |

Considering I have a projector hooked up the computer, with a nice 85" screen in my bedroom and 65" in our RV, I use my desktop or my laptop to play everying. Its kind of late, but heres some info in case your still looking into this: I used to run, as my main gateway, and now just as a wireless gateway into my network, a WRT54G v3 (newest revision) with an SD card soldered in to the GPIO pins, running OpenWRT. I used shorewall to set everything up, and a... |

University of Alberta server rooms (at least in ETLC, ECERF, and iCore) all use OpenBSD, Solaris, or Linux. But they do have a bunch of Windows terminal servers as well, so that all their desktops can be running Linux or Mac OS X and still run Windows programs. One thing that always brought a smile ... |

It could very well be that, because it belongs to a domain at work, when you bring it home, its looking for a domain controller to identify with (hence the login server not found). Try chaning its domain settings to not belonging to a domain, and instead belonging to a workgroup, preferably the same... |

Was it sold as an AMD64 2400? If so, its not actually a 2.4ghz processor as the name may lead you to believe, its just AMDs equivalent to the Intel 2.4ghz processor of the same lineup. It is correct that a 2400 should only be about 1.7ghz (my AMD64 3000+ is 1.8ghz). If its actually supposed to be 2.... |
