I've never actually told anyone that I might have Aspergers, but apparently back when my sister first got the idea that is/was what's "wrong" with me, she discussed it with my mom, and they both agreed that my issues would fit with that diagnosis.

I didn't really think about being successful or rich, just thought that as I grew up, I'd do the "normal" things like get a car, my own home, get married......etc. Meanwhile, the opposite has happened.....let's just say that out of the three kids in my family, I'm the least successful and the only o...

That could be........he apparently once asked my sister if she had any books on the fall of the roman empire that he could read, and this was for fun. Something else I forgot to mention though, is that "John" is also the type who would wear the same clothes every day if he could, and doesn't like to...

*just something I've been wondering about for awhile, and because it's not a subject I could bring up to my sister and her husband, was wondering what others here might think* My nephew (I'll call him "John") turned 10 this past December, and based on a few things which I've noticed, I'm wondering i...

Academics: It was definitely math........always had trouble with it, and it wasn't until my sophomore year in high school that a teacher became suspicious that I might have a learning problem. I do know that the school administration was looking into what could be done for me, but for whatever reaso...

It doesn't bother me that much, except that everyone whom I went to elementary school with seems to be married, and I'm still single. (This also goes for some childhood friends whom I'm facebook friends with......both have husbands and young kids)

Off the top of my head, I would say..... - don't worry so much about what your younger sister says/thinks, she's a very unhappy person who's trying to bring you down to make herself feel better. - get involved with more things in high school - it's not your fault that your maternal grandparents favo...

As a child/teen, I sometimes did feel more comfortable around adults than kids my own age.....for example - we have family friends with two girls about my age, and when all five of us kids got together, I always seemed to be the one to get ganged up on/teased. This rarely happened when our parents w...

That's what I'd wondered as well......I know the mother must have give some info to staff about her son, but whatever it was, wasn't shared with everyone. (saying this because she had come to the library looking for her son when he'd left the house, so I assume she must have had to explain something)

*It's been a few years since this happened, so I'll try to describe it as best I can. Looking back, I would say the guy in this situation was most likely autistic, just curious what other people's take on it might be* Some years ago, we had a mother and son who were semi-regular visitors at the libr...

*keeping in mind that I've not had an official diagnosis about being on the spectrum* Up until around the time I entered my teens, yes I did think I was normal......looking back, much of that was because my classmates/other kids at school never really came out and told me when I was saying or doing ...

There's some adult support here in the Phoenix area, but mostly seems to be for either parents of autistic children, or adults who are on the low-functioning end of the spectrum. (although my daughter's psychologist works with autistic children, so she might have some resources on what's available f...

Does it count if you've never been officially diagnosed? Because if so, then my younger sister has done this to me numerous times over the years - mainly in conversations with family members, but she once posted about it on Facebook, and made it sound like I'm more low-functioning than I actually am...

It's kind of like that in my area.......support groups do exist, but they're mostly in other parts of the city, or they're directed towards parents whose children are on the spectrum.
