My daughter is not diagnosed but I'm pretty sure she is on the spectrum it's just taking forever to get her to specialists. She's been saying more and more recently how she is different to the other kids. At one point she was crying for over an hour whilst I rocked her, she just kept going on about ...

Raggy dolls I like the message portrayed in this cartoon series that it's okay to be different. Just the title credits makes me (and my daughter) smile...... Raggy dolls - The thunder storm Here's some blurb about it (from wikipedia)..... The series is set in Mr. Grimes' Toy Factory where, unless t...

I was only recently diagnosed with Asperger's and I have a 7 year old daughter (and been trying for another for 2 years now). My advice is go with the flow, I was so intent on doing this and that and following this stupid baby book that had a routine of wake up at this time, feed baby, play with bab...

In Tony Attwood's "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" it says: “First, due to impaired or delayed ToM abilities, the person with Asperger’s syndrome may not realize that the other person is likely to be more offended by the lie than by any apparent misdemeanour. Second, he or she may consid...

Hi, I read through your post and was nodding in agreement at alot of it, particularly these parts (my daughter has just turned 7 btw).... - frequently gets obsessed with topics of interest , eg. Cars movie, Thomas, where he has to know every little detail about the subject for a while, and then goes...

I rehearse conversations in my head, so if I need to bring up a particular topic with someone I will play out in my head what i will say what they will possibly say, various things that could be said back and forth until I've covered pretty much every reaction. Sometimes I get so tied up with thinki...

I forgot to come back here and update this thread. I was referred to the CLASS clinic, managed to get an earlier appointment due to a cancellation (their waiting lists can be a few months long) and I was diagnosed with Asperger's in mid May. So my suspicions were correct and I'm pretty sure my daugh...

I don't like things that are too crunchy, I have to have really soggy cereal, I can't stand crispy chips(fries), vegetables, rock hard cookies etc. I don't like my meals to be dry, so if for example I was going to have egg fried rice I HAVE to have some kind of sauce on it or I just can't eat it. Sa...

I breast and bottle fed, exclusively breast for about a month and then started to mix feed for the next 4 months (then just bottle after that). I only breast fed around the house and took bottles out with me and my husband was able to bottle feed her as well which meant we only had to get up once ea...

League_girl - I have explained to her about stating the obvious, but I'm not sure it makes any difference, it's like her brain has a total block when it comes to certain things and no matter how many times I explain something to her it just doesn't seem to sink in. I could tell her to use silly ins...

Bethan - See that's the difficult part, she knows full well what words mean, it's saying them in an offensive way she doesn't seem able to grasp, in her mind telling someone they are fat is not the same as calling them fat. We explain these things but it doesn't seem to register, plus she's been ca...

Thanks for your input Mummy of peanut , I never thought whether the sensory problems were making her more irritable and less friendly. She doesn't have a problem with her uniform, she wears a polo shirt, skirt and leggings (she hates tights), if she doesn't like how something feels she will not wear...

"Manners"...they were apparently very important. Not to swear...again, see manners. Be nice to people....again see manners. Sharing...again see manners. ^This and also my parents taught me that it was okay to be different. My dad was very very anti-drugs and made it clear we would be in huge troubl...

The shower/bathing isn't the problem for me. I like the hot water and steam (makes my head feel better, I have sinus problems) and I don't like feeling dirty or being afraid that I have an odor. But getting out is awful. I hate being cold and wet more than almost anything I can think of. ^ This is ...
