First I want to say that I know that people with Aspergers vary in their skills when it comes to forming friendships, and in no way am I suggesting that my condition is precluding me from doing better when it comes to doing that. But every now and then, it occurs to me that I really don't have &quo...

I suppose this really is the common reality for many (highly educated) people with Asperger's Syndrome.

At least there is no reason to feel bad about it, seeing that we cannot reasonably blaim ourselves - we were simply not born to live the kind of social life that many jobs require.

I never really realized this was the reality for AS people until after I had a Master's degree. I will never regret I attained that degree though, whether it will be useful or not in the future. It should improve employment-odds quite a lot. I did have this feeling of something being very "wron...

To your knowledge, is it common for highly educated people with Asperger's Syndrome (having for instance Bachelor-, Master's- or even PhD-degrees from college) to be unemployed/underemployed (long) after they have graduated college? My theory is that (some) relatively high-functioning autistic peopl...

This has been upsetting me for quite a while now that milder forms of AS are being put anywhere near classic Autism or that AS is the same as High Functioning Autism. The thing is that I can read people's facial expressions and understand body language, I don't flap my hands, I can understand sarca...

qawer, you seem to have an extremely negative and distorted view of humanity. Not everything is about dominance, threat, survival, etc. Not everyone is out to get everyone else. Some people just want to be nice.

I was almost killed in a bullying incident - I had to reconsider my view of humanity.

If you do not respond to a threat against you, be threatening back in some way, you submit to them. But in some scenarios you are either unable to or cannot threat back for others reasons, so sometimes you end up submitting involuntarily. And I wonder how you can deal with the bad emotion of being ...

Example 1: I am building a redwood swingset for my kids and my brother in law offers to help. I can do it alone with some difficulty, but it's much easier with his assistance. I accept his offer and together we put up the structure. This was a friendly gesture on his part. By accepting this friendl...

You are in fact being put in a submissive position when you receive help, even though it may be one of the "best" kinds of dominance. I don't think this is universally true, though it is true in some situations. There are other kinds of giving and receiving that build ties between equals....

How does "receiving help" equate to being dominated? Pretty simple, if you are receiving help you are in a more vulnerable position than the person helping you. They can use that to control or manipulate. *edit* Well, here's an example. Imagine if you have a really nosy, overbearing neigh...

How do you handle being dominated emotionally? I feel bad for a long time after I have been dominated (i.e. made fun of, being ignored, being interrupted, being told what to do or what you are not allowed to do, receiving help, being physically or emotionally harassed) because of my AS. Anyone has a...

I think I have finally figured out why people with Asperger's Syndrome so often have to battle depression...at least I have had to face this problem regularly, without really understanding why. Here is how I personally see it (in very general terms): People with AS have a differently "wired&quo...

"It is better to die on your feet, than to live on your knees" ~ Emiliano Zapata I find that dignity is important for NTs, but completely crucial for people with AS. I mean life important! Yet we are naturally bad at defending our dignity in a social setting because of our bad social skills. Does a...

We have Hitler to thank for the mess that humanity has gotten itself into. If Hitler was never in power, many more people would respect all human life and not just the lives of "perfect babies". Hitler just represents the "ultimate" of what our society represents: only the best race should survive ...
