Forum: Autism Politics, Activism, and Media Representation   Topic: want to raise awareness specifically for AS females

I really feel like TV/movies would be the best representation. All obviously/purposely AS characters I seen in film media are male. Creating something with a female AS character (diagnosed or implied) would do a lot to change stereotypes. And, sadly, film has a larger audience than print, though I'm...

A few randomly useful things: Shut down your computer when not using it. Unless you have a very new computer, the long and annoying wake up time gives you time to think about whether you need to use your computer, and anticipating the long start up time might make you less likely to impulsively turn...

No nostalgia for elementary/middle school

But I do the prior years of high school. The good old days, before most of my friends ran off and graduated.

Content wise, great. As for writing style: You need a better intro. While being direct is nice, I think you need to find a balance between flowery and direct. Just a catchier first sentence would be nice. They know that this is an essay about a person who has had the most significant impact on your ...

Yep. Although I keep trying to develop a wider taste in music (even within punk), I can't bring myself to do that until I've listened to every Bad Religion song until I get sick of it, which will be never. I have over 100 of their songs downloaded/bought, listen to many more, still keep finding new ...

If they can't tell, you shouldn't. With friends, it might make sense to come out, and you shouldn't lie if it comes up in conversation. But telling people you have Asperger's before you have had months to prove yourself socially competent is usually a bad idea in a professional setting, where a nega...

Fascinating. But that man must have read the article. I can't imagine having that written about me—my eccentricities exaggerated and then published for the world to see. Only I have permission write about myself like that, and I hate to think of what he felt while reading that. I think the writer of...

That would describe my friends. Sure. The awkwardness spectrum extends past formal autism. Someone can be awkward without being so awkward a psychologist gives them a name for their awkward. Quirky is a choice, and quite a few people choose it, when they could have chosen normal. The NT brain is not...

There is no true rest, but "rest" (choosing a frame of reference which makes sense) makes the math easier (read: possible.)

I think you are just confused by bad wording.

I think the issue here is that, even if light traveled at 32 km/h, we would still have the same difficulties approaching the speed of light as we do in this universe, and thus, nothing would go the speed of light.

These difficulties include physics breaking down.

He sounds like a clingy wanna be lover, not a clingy friend. I doubt that he will settle for friendship alone.

You might want to set him up with groups where he can meet more people—clubs for people with similar interests or issues. If he knows more people, perhaps he will cling to you less.

Teenager on the internet with no psychological training. Don't sue me for malpractice? At any rate, you don't sound any more abnormal than the rest of us on here. For your bipolar guess: I experience the same thing, though I can explain the cyclical nature of low periods with menstrual periods, whic...

I think those are manageable because they're infrequent, though. I'd get a little bit more annoyed if passing cars shook my house.

I'm great with concepts. Problem solving, not so much. I can figure out the way to solve hard problems, but, the messier the algebra gets, the more likely I am to misread my own handwriting, forget a negative sign, or make a mistake in 8th grade level algebra. Math is still my worst subject, but I'm...
