Not bothered by that. I like the texture of animal tongues. It is unique. I have two pet geckos. One desert species and the other tropical arboreal; eublepharis macularius and rhacodactylus auriculatus respectively. Both always flick their tongues out at my hands if they are nearby when I am cleanin...

For myself it isn't static photos that are a problem. It is video. I don't look unusual. It is my physical movements that are divergent from those of others, mostly. It is very very difficult for me to watch video of myself for this reason. I don't think of it as being self conscious as normally I a...

B19 is correct. Unfortunately this can and often does happen after a period of time. Go to your doctor, discuss options. You may consider increasing your dosage, augmenting your treatment with an additional med, and/or switching to a different anti-depressant either of the same class or one that tar...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Aspergers normal to above normal IQ true or false?

I took the WAIS as part of my neuropsych assessment. They didn't list score numbers in the report, only percentile. It said I am on the low side of average (37%). But, for those of us on the autism spectrum it is especially important not to pay attention to iq scores. The usual iq test result for pe...

I just stop and slow way down. As for the robotic, I prefer that over the stuttering,.

I don;t know any better solutions. It doesn't happen so frequently as to be a problem that I feel like I need to devote extra effort to solving/.

I do know he finds his brother embarrassing - he's said as much. I'm not sure if that's an innate feeling or a learned behavior (parents do, too), or a bit of both. I don't know what to do about that, either (again, I can't really relate). Now that is different. No one in my family has felt embarra...

Certainly. That direct basis for comparison would be very useful for me i think, to understand what that perspective would be like. Perhaps to give additional context to my answer: I would be equally interested in having the psychology of a bird for a week. And a lizard. And prey mammal. And a preda...

I was on this med and also its sibling citalopram for a while. It was reasonably effective for me, for depression and a bit for OCD related anxiety. I eventually switched to a different med as the side effects were problematic for me. Some weight gain and very unsettled sleeping (vivid dreams nightl...

Of course he does. It is entirely normal opinion to have. He does not need life advice about this. He does not need counseling. His feeling is not wrong . Sometimes I wish my father wasn't a f*****g basket case. It isn't that I demand he be a person that he is not. Or that I do not accept him as he ...

So today I was at a large pet store to obtain litter and timothy hay for my soon to be roommate guinea pigs. I don't have them yet, i am just collecting the required items before I adopt from rescue. Anyway, i am in pet store with my ear plugs in as I always have when in retail establishments. I hea...

Unfortunately we do live in a world made up of, and specifically designed for, neurotypical people. In so far as interaction is concerned, both social and professional, people on the high functioning end of the spectrum are disabled -or disadvantaged if you prefer- relative to neurotypicals in that ...

Avoidance. Ear plugs. Industrial ear muffs; sometimes called 'ear defenders', they are the headphone shaped things construction workers use to protect their hearing when using power tools. Good foam plugs block about 30 decibels, the ear muffs do about 20 decibels. They can be worn at the same time ...

Ah. Thank you very much for posting your perspective on this. It is one assumption people have made about my parents that is, unfortunately, quite true in my case. I like hearing stories about people who did have responsible parents. It makes me feel a little better, about people and the world, that...
