I wonder if its a generational thing, like I wonder if it used to be the norm for guys to have their first girlfriend in their teens, but in this generation, it's much more common for guys to be entering their 20s, 30s, or older and never had a girlfriend before.

It happens all the time. Women do ask out men. I'd advise against using anecdotes as evidence here. However, there *is* a social stigma against women who do this. Some see it as "being too forward." Also, this idea about "women only asking out attractive men" doesn't make sense....

a common, stubborn reason as to why women are adamant about keeping the tradition alive, regarding that the man has to be the initiator, is because they say "men court women, it's been like that traditionally"
