My son is 24 and I still have to remind him to shower on days he does not go to work. I use the direct approach, "dude you reek"! I have had less trouble getting him to brush his teeth ever since we read an article about how dental hygiene afects heart and even more so kidney health. One grandma had...

Steve used to love music, loved singing and dancing and being sung to. And now seems to ignore or actively dislike it. His favorite was "Puff the Magic Dragon" I can't listen to that tune without feeling a huge loss of my favorite singing and dancing partner.

Steve is so much fun to take to the store and restaraunts. If I need to know the best price for something at the store (is A 16 OZ JAR AT $1.20 a better buy than an 18 oz at $1.99 )he can instantly compute which is the better bargain. When we go out to eat he always checks the bill for accuracy and ...

God can I ever relate to this topic! I used to wish that instead of his mother I was my son's a-couple-years-older-sister so I could knock the snot out of the little savages who constantly tormented him. I have to commend most of the schools Steve attended. All but one had a true zero tolerance poli...

My son had meltdowns too. They did not involve hitting or biting others; just himself all except once. He out of the blue punched me in the arm when he was 16 or 17. He is nearly 25 kilos larger and 20 cm taller than I. I made it clear that a repeat performance would result in my calling the police ...

We live in NW Ohio. No one around here had ever heard of AS before the late 1990s. Fortunately for Steve a lot of people did many things right even though they had no idea what they were dealing with. This includes many of the teachers in our school system, both public and private. They held Steve a...

Hello, I am the mother of a 24 yr old son with AS. He was not correctly diagnosed until he was 16 yrs old. Before that I thought I was the most inept parent on the planet. My son Steve was mis-diagnosed with many things: neurologically underdeveloped, learning disabled, ADHD, partial complex seizure...

I also am displeased with the news story being spun around the fact the boy has AS. His other problems were not catalogued. And it is likely one of them was the cause. In my experience kids with as well as those without AS develope psychological problems in response to not adapting well to a classro...
