I disagree about the overkill. Often to make an accurate diagnosis many other possible conditions must be ruled in or out. Although using a testing instrument outside the population for which it's been validated weakens its accuracy that doesn't make it useless either. Sometimes the best tool for a ...

That's very common with females on the spectrum. I am in the process of seeking diagnosis. It's a risk. I just made sure I picked a doctor with experience and talked with her about my concerns. The tests themselves are just what they are biased or not but its up to the doctor to interpret them. I'm ...

Well it's not uncommon for other conditions to run into people who have traits but don't meet the full diagnostic criteria so I don't see why that wouldn't hold true for asd. After all any diagnosis is an artificial construct. It's just a way for doctors to try to identify common groupings of traits...

i've been off the board for months and i apologize for disappearing. some of it was my life imploding, some of it was being homeless and the enormous amount of work and stress that creates (i was actually living in the woods, no lie). simple tasks like staying clean, getting food, recharging my phon...

"faults" are a matter of opinion. nobody is god and has the right to inflict their opinions on someone else as if they were matters of fact. there are far more constructive ways to communicate concern, to love, and to support anyone. for instance, even in a case where one feels concerned enough to ...

i have no idea if this is typical of aspies, but i definitely do this with any animal i've encountered. i tend to copy their vocalisms and body language when i run into an other animal of the same species, to try to set them at ease and connect.

for what it's worth, i think it's impossible to enforce any kind of "women only" access. if they tied access to profile, all some troll needs to do is create an account that identifies him as female. nobody is doing a DNA test.
