I believe the Democratic Party in the US should reach out to small business owners. I think they would have a lot to offer them, but for some reason they simply assume that small business owners will always vote Republican.

pineapple on pizza Pineapple ...with bits of ham...creates a Hawiian luau thing on your pizza thats...awesome! :D No ham. Pineapple with spicy things is a better contrast. My mother who was born before the start of WWI used to cook ham with pineapple and cloves. I think that was a typical...

Most of the problems of the world today are the result of our successes. Not our failures. One example: If a disease breaks out in some corner of the world it took months for it to spread to other continents. Today a person can get on a jet in Africa and land in Dallas and take viruses with them at...

Is this person nice to you? Yeah he is but I haven't actually met him face-to-face yet Hopefully Tuesday If we get along we are going to date for 6 months or a year and then possibly get married! OK so this person said they would meet the guy on Tuesday and they haven't logged in to WP since early ...

It always has been. An era that's good for one country isn't necessarily good for others, after all. So even if things were working well in the USA at some point, it doesn't hold that this was true all over. Ironically compared to other major countries I can think of, things actually ARE working we...

Hitler was angry that Germany (and Austria) were “stabbed in the back” by the Versailles Treaty. And really many shared this sentiment in this time and place. TBH the Versailles Treaty was highly vindictive is all I'll say. After WWII the US instituted the Marshall Plan to mitigate conditions that ...

In the US, supporters of Donald Trump believe he is the rightful ruler and anyone who opposes him is a traitor. Therefore any means used to restore him to the Presidency is justified. The fact that you and people like you are still alive and able to elect your own politicians suggests that the atti...

I believe cult of the leader is a substantial factor but not sufficient alone. I think it's a major factor and one could argue everything else follows from that. In the US, supporters of Donald Trump believe he is the rightful ruler and anyone who opposes him is a traitor. Therefore any means used ...

Fascism is not some right wing equivalent of Communism. The only formal definition of Fascism would be the platform of the Italian Fascist Party 100 years ago. Otherwise the term tends to be used as an epithet. If I had to give a definition I would say it's the promotion of authority for its own sak...

The Holodomor was a major genocide committed against Ukrainians in the early 30s. How can it not be etched in people’s memories? Poles, I sense, feel a kinship with Ukrainians. As a young person I knew nothing about the Holodomor. When I was in elementary school, the leader of the USSR was Ukrainia...

It's a funny thing... I don't know when Westerners started to be aware of Holodomor but we were thinking about it recently and it turned out both me and my husband "knew for so long that we don't know when we learned it". I think both our families had contact with its survivors and preser...

I don’t believe a starving Cuban urban worker would care what Pierre (or Elliott) Trudeau thought. But this is about all the good press the Cuban Revolution always seemed to get worldwide, not what living in Cuba actually is like. I rather suspect that reports of rough living conditions in Cuba wer...

I have some comments about the former Warsaw Pact countries having visited a couple back in the day. Later. However I would like to remind people of the huge amount of worldwide support shown for the Cuban Revolution during the Cold War and even nowadays. For example, the English Language Wikipedia ...

Whether or not such a collection of bumperstickers is likely to be just a prank, as Dox alleges, would depend very much on the culture of the locale where the photo was taken. Unfortunately, there do exist people for whom that collection of bumperstickers would be, if anything, an understatement of...

1. Cultural. American culture is, I hope no one gets offended, horribly rat-eats-rat conquest-oriented individualist. The US began moving away from that in the years following WWII. In the 70s there was a protracted period of economic stagnation, the result of which was that a new political trend t...
