I think maybe by "read people" he means notice patterns in their behaviour. If certain behaviours accompany certain playing styles, and you pick up on those patterns, you can read people well as far as poker goes. I'm pretty good at poker, but it's mostly because (a) I have a natural poker face and ...

People who have to insert themselves into a debate but don't know how to debate. I enjoy a good discussion of politics or philosophy, but get so tired of the same old straw men and ad hominems. Boy, have you got that right. It's pretty simple to debate well. The rules of a simple and productive dis...

From Philip Roth's "This Be the Verse":

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
and don't have any kids yourself.

Woah. Videos of animals playing bore you? The only thing boring about them is that the person filming ALWAYS feels a need to talk over the adorable cute sugabears being adorable cute sugarbears.

Reality sux. Aspies have too much reality. Reality is hard to change. Reality is easy to ignore. (apparently) Non-happy happy joy joy stuff is probably reality. No wonder those who can , will chose to ignore it as much as possible and socially punish/avoid those who break their 'suspension of disbe...

Just a daily aspie example of sensory overload. Whether it's ambient background noise that suddenly seems amplified to the point that the brain focuses on the ' roaring silence ' and misses everything else, or whether it's being overwhelmed by one's own sudden sense of self-consciousness to the lev...

I basically hate trying new things, but I don't have the food issues some do. That said, I do eat the same meal for breakfast and typically the same meal for dinner every day (only eating two meals a day). Often autistic people have food issues, particularly with texture. I have a few of these but t...

My husband laughed when he saw what I posted. Then he told me that yes, eyes communicate everything. When his little patients walk in the door, he checks out their eyes to see what they are thinking. Children can't always say what they are feeling, but the eyes will always express the feelings. Is ...

All the time. I'm fond of staring at a particular four way intersection of tiles on the floor of one my classrooms at school. Or, if I want some excitement, I'll stare at this weird sort of wall fixture next to the electrical outlets. It's got two green squares and a yellow square which, if I'm not ...

There's a study out there about this actually. I forget the authors or the year or anything like that, but I know there's a thread about it on WP somewhere. There are traits that are more common in autistic people than in others, things like wayward whorls of hair and a particular type of ear. It's ...
