The etymology of the word sincere is from the Latin meaning "without wax". It was used to describe pottery in the ancient world that did not have a leaking seam or hole that was plugged with wax so that it seemed to hold water when it actually wouldn't in the long run. The usage today usua...

You might not want to place too much value on the toys. If the staff doesn't like your son, it may be picked up by the other kids who could then turn on your son. If there is someplace that has an art focus, you might find people inclined towards art to be a little more tolerant (not a rule, but a p...

As our society increases in its collectivization, even smaller groups will display the unattractive qualities of the Department of Motor Vehicles. People will have their procedures and methods and not be happy when people are not able to be processed with machine-like efficiency. You might try a chu...

I had a friend many years ago who was looking for summer employment at the university of Kentucky. He was scanning a list of jobs which all paid $3/hr. except one for the biology department at $15/hr. He took that one and then discovered it was collecting rattlesnakes. If you are excluded from summe...

I see "abusive" as implying periodic emotional outbursts. "Toxic" might be seen as more of a constant state. Additionally, I would see a greater level of subtlety with toxic.

13 is a really rough age. The brain goes through some changes such as being able to handle abstract thought. Identify becomes expanded and one starts to see themselves more in a social context with all the uncertainties that entails. If you have understanding and caring parents, you should take adva...

I would like my accountant or surgeon to be perfectionists.

I prefer the freedom to be less concerned.

It may be better to help your son learn to differentiate between acting on his talkative instincts and assessing when it is more appropriate to act on them. These life skills are necessary to function as an adult. Childlike inquiry is not often well received from an adult. These social skills, if th...

Clothing provides two useful functions for me, warmth, and protection from sharp objects.

Additionally, people have enough reasons to reject me, being ugly just adds to the list.

You might want to use this time to experiment. You might try all sorts of things to see if anything in particular resonates such as athletics, artistic, or leisure learning classes like cooking. There are also less consumptive experiments that you might try like volunteer work. If you take classes, ...

I feel like I am at a dead end with no where else to go but to end me. Sometimes our view of life can be shaped by TV and we can begin to think of what role we can play in life. This can lead us to think of life as a performance and value ourselves in terms of what others might think. Real life cons...

he's a Dr so I guess he knows what's he's talking about You may wish to revisit this assumption. I use the older term Aspergers because I think it is more accurate. Those that claim sovereignty over this territory lumped it in with autism. I suspect because it allowed them to imply a defect that th...

One might think of Aspergers as a neurological variant that has a faster, more complex, or more sensitive neurology. This can result in a higher level of anxiety sometimes even exceeding discomfort to levels of pain. For children life can become a narrow focus of avoiding what is uncomfortable. Ofte...

Most people, as they age, become more comfortable in their own skin. Even with the sensitivities of Aspergers, the relative increase in confidence often lessens the impact the words of others can have. If you hear something that sounds hurtful, if you have some degree of confidence of the truth of w...

You might encourage him to experiment with things that he might otherwise not consider. For example, you might see if he is interested in visiting an amateur radio meeting. It may sound like a strange suggestion, but many people have developed an interest in electronics following this path. The grou...
