The dominant AS learning style is autodidactic (first hand experiments, conscious observation and analysis, critical analysis of the experiments and observations made by others, ?) rather than social (intuitive and mostly subconscious copying of the behaviour of others). ... Thanks for the article,...

I went camping this summer with a 40 year old trailer camper and a 30 year old Dodge PowerRam. The neighbors invited me to their campfire and we were chatting about my awesome Dodge. Then she said, "So how'd you get here?" "The Dodge," I said. (Did she think I brought 2 vehicles?) Everyone laughed. ...

Playing games as an adult isn't childish, it has been affectionately called "normal." It's unhealthy for grownups to not be able to enjoy little fun things or retain the ability to play. How far CAN you flick a cigarette butt? I'll bet I have a better aim. :P

My Aspie cousin is obsessed with everything Disney and has been to the Florida theme park tooooo many times. She'd like to work there. So yes, it is possible to survive.

I find my anxiety is actually better when I'm tired. It's like part of my mind is too active with some things & being tired brings the level down towards normal range. Me too! When I'm tired I tend to not care so much, or something. I'm a lot quieter, but I'm also a lot less likely to have anxi...

Like if someone lacks theory of mind, I can't see how he could even know he doesn't have it because it's simply missing! it's like a color blind suddenly feeling sad about not seeing certain colors. I can tell -- and yes, it IS kind of like being colorblind and being sad I don't know red. It's like...

I looked up "Ed Sheeran Asperger's" and I found this thread. I had only listened to his music before, but then I saw a video of him and thought, "He looks an awful lot like me..." 8)

Hi VA, I was relieved to be diagnosed, but it was still a very big deal and I became more withdrawn for 5 months. In some ways I learned to have more patience with myself and others; I could say, "Of course I struggled with this/said that/didn't understand that, I have Asperger's!" But I also felt l...

I find that, if I reveal my diagnosis to someone, I actually behave "more autistic" towards that person, when otherwise I would have been capable of responding rather normally.

He then GAVE ME PERMISSION NOT TO LOOK AT HIM. I immediately started crying, because nobody had ever given me permission not to look at them before. I don't think anyone outside the spectrum could comprehend how wonderful those words were to hear. How beautifully kind! I feel like crying now, too.

I always feel unstable and I frequently have just a general feeling of confusion. Not about any one thing, it just feels like nothing makes sense, and it makes it hard for me to even think, let alone communicate. I have basically no emotion other than anger. I often can't organize my thoughts well....

It might be important to define "fun," no? I never go out shopping (except for essentials), to see movies, go to amusement parks, etc. For me those things aren't much fun. But every day I do something that, for me, is fun. For example, I do a little "yum tasty food" dance at mealtimes (I eat a...

I don't know how other people experience me unless they tell me. Sometimes I think that everything about me conveys that I love them and I'm happy to see them, and then I find out that I've been offending them all along because something about my body language or whatever has been communicating the ...

I'm not sure how much is specifically related to Asperger's and what is just my personality, background, formation etc. Some people have told me that I'm one of their heroines  because I always seemed happy to just be myself; I never used makeup (it felt foolish and fake), I wore whatever I fe...
