so did the GDR and my friend Tom when he built his house. They all build walls to keep people in or out. Different situations, different contexts. Israel's border wall is very different from Trump's, very different from the Berlin Wall, and they are all different from my friend Tom's house, which re...

the monetary reward makes politics more attractive, plus the monetary reward increases with age. in prostitution on the other hand monetary reward decreases with age, and for those, as well as biological and cultural reasons, it's not a great option for old men in particular. so what are those poor ...

We create technology and it shapes us in return. It's a feedback loop in many ways. the great thing about socially distancing technologies is that they keep other people and other people's problems away. We can now more easily than ever chose whether we are willong to listen to anyone complaining, ...

Usually, I'd say, politicians don't just "want to kill", there is no evil, no good, just strategy and power. At least that's what I would have said if you had used China or Afghanistan as examples. But Duterte and Bolsonaro are different breeds. They managed to completely make up enemies t...

I don't see how calling someone as they wish could possibly harm students. It's such a small ask. IMHO the teachers should shut up and respect each student's choice. Note that I also wouldn't approve of a heavy hand enforcing the standard, given how often people will make innocent mistakes. Shoot, ...

you are phrasing things quite rightly as "beliefs". you can't argue beliefs. you could technically try and explain to people hiw vaccines work - I tried that with my step mother, and it did stump her quite a bit when I phrased it as "preparing the immune system to recognize the virus,...

yeah, this is the fallout of a global pandemic that disrupted supply chains. Stuff that should have been produced in the last 18 months just wasn't, so the supplies that did get produced are now rising in price, pulling everything else up. A normal inflation that goes along with rising wages would b...

"Natural" events follow well-defined physical principles that require no deliberate intervention to occur. "Supernatural" requires the deliberate intervention of angels, demons, ghosts, and gods for events to occur. that definition just makes the supernatural fictional, and the ...

a good time to watch old and epic movies you might otherwise struggle to sit through. At least, that's how I pass time when ill in bed.
I mean, have you ever watched Kurosawa's Throne of Blood?
it's Macbeth, with Samurais!

If it's for a spell then it really doesn't matter how it's pronounced. The only person listening is you. Beware of magical thinking. It's a slippery slope. I figured I let him find out by trying - I mean, you can't really convince someone just by telling them physics don't work like that. That's ex...
