One example of faith vs skepticism is the age of the earth. Under the faith regime, one man went to the trouble of adding up the generations mentioned in the Bible and came up with a 6,000 year old earth. Faith and arithmetic. It's a "no skeptics allowed" area. Conversely, science looked a...

I used to hunt knowledge in books, and the latest were several years behind. Youngster: "I can tell you about tangential vectors in brushless motors and route your IP packets by size and layer, and I can do that with all the efficacy of a legal wizard." Old guy: "Oh my... You're a ve...

Seriously, there are only maybe 2 true scientists on this forum. The rest of us do the best we can with what we know and the journey we've made. Only a true brain surgeon can tell you ALL of the ins and outs of brain surgery. In the same way, there are few if any true theologians here. I studied th...

I look back nostalgically at the first half of the 20th century. Things were simpler, crime was not so in your face, people would leave their doors unlocked, romance was sweet and innocent, girls were girly and men were manly, cars didn't have computers, a family could live off one income, crass com...

Never trust a scientist and never trust the scientific method. Be sceptical and ask questions. Faith expects trust, not doubt. Science expects doubt, not trust. You want us to be skeptical of science, but to you also want us to accept your evidence of God without skepticism. Science expects us to b...

The main difference between science method and faith is the word doubt . Faith generally looks to find ways to support itself. Doubt is often considered anti-faith. Science will always side with doubt. Everything science "believes in" has only survived after a many trials of doubt tests. W...

Then my problem is with people who think the scientific method isn't flawed in any way, and the fact that they are thereby hypocritical to say the bible is flawed, there fore we shouldn't believe a word it says. It's over 5000 years old at least, of course its claims are exaggerated, and some of it...

Neither matter or energy create themselves, it is impossible. If it wasn't the earth would be growing in size every day. If that were even remotely true, then all string theory scientists must be complete and utter idiots, CERN in Switzerland is so expensively stupid that their stupidity is off the...

utter nonsense. The scientific method is not logically flawed Then by all means externally verify it WITHOUT using any kind of empirical observation. Demonstrate that science is pure reasoning and completely non-circular. To anyone else "observing" this, note the inherent trap here. Dent ...

God does exist, we know this because we wouldn't be here without him. evidence please You give me evidence of nothing turning itself into something then I will show you God himself. It's up to the one making a claim, to provide evidence. You claim our being here is proof of God. You cannot prove a ...

However, it is clearly possible for "open" systems to fight against entropy, otherwise there would never be a complete jigsaw puzzle. I do struggle with "open" and "closed" systems. After all, are there any "closed" systems in nature? I get the idea that a cl...

Umm just for us non-americans, could you, like, explain things like SAE in future. From your post, I interpreted it as a fraternity thing, so I Googled SAE fraternity and got the answer. So, if you're worried about excluding black people, what about excluding the rest of the world too?
