I was banned from a support forum for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue because I said the forum software should be updated to work like other forums. I used to be an admin on a busy forum and we never banned anyone -- just once we banned a guy for repeatedly saying really creepy things to young wome...

I don't really feel that I am socializing here because most of the time I don't know what to say (just like real life?) I do find that people here have a lot of interesting input that I like to read.

I agree that this has been a place that feels like a respite from the rest of the world. I can't say that I feel I fit in, exactly, but I appreciate the people here.

Jacs, I'm happy for you. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm not polidactylic so I am in posession of the standard number of digits but let me use this thread as an opportunity to express my amusement at your, English speaking people, using two different terms for digits on feet and hands - in my country we use only one term for both; you only need to pr...

I think that AS affects so many aspects of the way I am and how I interact with the world that at times it can be very difficult to pick apart exactly what problems are due to AS and which are due to upbringing, personality, external factors, etc. I've had some very troubling problems trying to get ...

I am not qualified to give you advice, but I would say trust your own instincts. You are the one who can best judge as to whether the therapy your son is receiving is useful, and whether you should seek out a different therapist.

I had a friend who worked at an ABA school for LF autistic adults and one of the areas they focused on was reducing and discouraging stimming. This is one of the reasons, as I understand it, why ABA is controversial in the autistic community, though I am not particularly knowledgeable and others her...

I think the issue is one of embracing whatever characteristics make us who we are. Saying that someone has autism rather than saying he is autistic sounds like a desire to create distance between the person and the disorder, which I don't see as desirable because it carries with it an implication th...

I think that external factors like one's nationality, job, position in society as a parent, wife, husband, or even religion or lack thereof, are relatively superficial indicators of identity. For me personally, they don't carry a lot of meaning., They are sort of like the flag you wave to others so ...

I have found that with my other condition, which is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, people are more accepting when they think I am just lazy than when I tell them I can't do something because I have CFS. This doesn't apply to people I am close to, who have seen my difficulty first hand, but to random peop...

I think it's a matter of being stranded with no compass. In social situations, I don't really know what is going on and have to blindly say things that I think will be polite and inoffensive, rather than actively following the social dance, which escapes me. It's hard to know exactly what I'm missin...

I think that all you can do is go in there with an open mind and see what he says, but if he doesn't know about Asperger's Syndrome he might not be helpful. Just keep your expectations open so you are not too disappointed if he doesn't understand. Good luck!

How do you learn to meditate? Do you have to take a class or have people generally found that it's just as effective to read up on it and practice on one's own?
