Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: What does it mean to forgive?

I have trouble understanding the concept of forgiveness. I can easily forgive someone I care about, because the way I feel about the person overrides any anger I might have toward them. I can do that because it's not something I do actively, it just happens -- it flows out of the good feelings I hav...

I usually don't tell anyone. I don't think that most people know what AS is, so telling them, for me, is like giving them a piece of information that they don't know what to do with.

On the other hand, I agree that it increases acceptance, but I guess I feel too shy myself to be an ambassador.

Since I also have chronic fatigue syndrome, I usually just say, "I'm very tired today." Not that it works. I would think that tiredness is something that everyone has experienced, but no one ever seems to get that what I mean is, "Please don't talk to me right now."

Also, what kind of responses a given user receives is influenced by how much they are generally liked. I think that's much less true on WP than on other forums. People here tend to say what they mean (as far as I can tell) and to respond to the content of posts rather than the poster's personality ...

Yep, that's how NT forums work...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Confidence In Therapists

UK therapists are obsessed with depression being the cause of everything and handing out medication whilst telling you to ignore your life experience and have more confidence in your ability to socialise. It's all about breathing and once you relax it will all come naturally to you. They actually s...

For example I have long been trying to explain to my therapists (every one I have seen since the age of 13) that I can't mix with people and that I really struggle with socialising because I don't really know what I am doing but they will always insist that it's just lack of confidence and if I don...

What thread was that? Did it get moved or put in the mod sections no members can see?

And I agree with Verdandi's assessment.

I've been on other forums that were predominantly NP (if there were Aspeis there they didn't identify themselves as such) and there was a lot more interaction among posters. People often replied to each other's posts, more often than just adding their point of view to the content of the thread. I th...

I think the OP was hoping that this would not turn into a discussion of semantics. The labels that are used to try to describe how well or poorly an individual is able to function are necessarily flawed. Perhaps each person's case could be best described as a graph that represents the severity of e...

Usually I just leave it up to the other person to end the conversation, and I don't really have trouble seeing when that is. They will say something obvious like "nice talking to you" or "see you later" or "I'm sorry I have to go." Then you can still linger for a few minutes to say goodbyes, so it d...

For a suspected Aspie, one who has trouble with social cues, I seem to have a hypersensitivity to people's tone of voice. There is some controversy over whether I am correct. Some therapists tell me that yes, people in my life are being subtly abusive when they speak to me in a condescending way as...

I'm very bad at deception and don't know how to be anyone else. I do hide parts of myself in various situations, but I don't substitute them with fake qualities, I just become more withdrawn.

I mostly don't talk to anyone about my problems because I would feel like I was burdening them. And talking to therapists has never been of any help to me. Mostly they just made me furious with their irrelevant comments and their complete misunderstanding of what problems I am actually facing, rathe...
