You also have symptoms that need to be examined by a professional. There is nothing scary about a psychiatrist. There is a large body of literature in this field, and there are a number of people who specialize in these areas. I know what your description says to me, but I am not licenced to practic...

There are some very creative people who are in their own world. Some of them have AS. The medical term for a sever case of it is dissociation. Everyone does it to some extent. Ever drive from point A to point B and wonder if you went through any red lights....or any lights for that matter. That is, ...

There is an injury that looks like PTSD, which comes from being too close to a powerful explosion. But you're not likely to have it unless you're a vet. The brain, by and large, is pretty well protected. There's the scalp, the skull, and a layer of fluid. They do a pretty good job. Even against some...

It beats living on the street. Having no one, and dying alone.

Look, Britt. I think I know what's wrong, but I don't practice medicine. You need to see someone. Someone good. You might never get over it, but you can learn to take your stress level down. If you live in Indiana I know someone. If not, well, there are lots of very good psychiatrists. You probably ...

I would like to be told in clear, uncondescending, unemotional language why I cannot get asked on a simple date. I actually believe this is an answerable question. I am 5'4" and my weight varies between 115 and 120 pounds. I have voluptuous amounts of curly reddish brown hair which is natural. I ow...

""What good is a long life to us if it is hard, joyless and so full of suffering that we can only welcome death as a deliverer?" Well, but Freud was talking about something else completely. He was talking about the justification for psychotherapy. And it was a different age. And (not to minimize bei...

I posted here a couple of times before, but I figured I would pop in again. Anyway, I just turned 30 and I was diagnosed with AS about nine or ten years ago. Compared to others with AS, I have done fairly well. I have a master's degree and a steady job...I live independently, am fairly active withi...

I've been out of school sick for the past two days, and I got a lot better this afternoon. When I thought that I would have to go to school tomorrow, I was plunged into a black, existential despair. I looked outside onto the gorgeous sunlit day that I could not venture into due to my hay fever, pon...

I hate people who interpret my female status. I have a lot of what could be considered female traits I suppose. I am a pretty vulnerable person; I never lose my temper. I keep an even keel and I hate confrontation. I am upfront about my insecurities and if I don't know something I just say so. I co...

Real PTSD can kill you (from secondary causes, of course). But worse, it can make your life miserable. You need professional help. It won't go away by itself (I'm not being pesimistic). As a matter of fact, it doesn't ever go away completely. However, it can be controlled. I just had a friend with P...

I worked in a hospital for years. I don't know of a patient who wasn't nervous. But as our lead gynocologist said, consider alternatives. They're pretty terrible. Cervical Cancer is one of the things they can catch on the exam...gotten early enough, it is serious, but not fatal in this day and age. ...

I hate the term 'ASPIE' It makes me feel like a freak  Does anyone else hate the word, and if so.. why? KatieRose: I hate it too. But nothing should make you feel like a freak. You aren't. It can make you uncomfortable, and you have every right (or maybe more like an obligation) to object, but...

As long as they're not trying to cure anything, it's probably a good video. Michael John Carley is a good guy, and seems to be more interested in helping people cope than finding a cure. He also doesn't claim to speak for all autistics, which is another point in his favor.

You got lectured on table manners by Temple Grandin? Yes.... That is. Not only that but she used me (not by name) as an example in her speech right after. She had to add. "I met this girl during lunch who ate like a pig..." Ouch. Talk about insult... For a long time I was mad at her an...
