Guns have a long history in America. In the early days of our Republic every man was expected to own a firearm. The men were part of local militias that met regularly for training. Also, many people hunted game. Obviously, firearms now are more lethal than muskets. Some people are simply collectors....

Do you get Netflix in the UK? White Frog is about a 15 year old boy in southern California, who has Aspergers. His older brother worked with him to overcome some of his AS behaviors. Early in the movie the older brother dies. Unknown to everyone, the older brother Chaz is secretly gay and is having ...

I see. Our laws are judged if they are constitutional. For example, our income taxes are an amendment to the Constitution. For a state to outlaw the federal income tax would be unconstitutional. Perhaps a country doesn't really need to have written guarantees of civil rights, but it works for us. Be...

Do you think that such guarantees would be acceptable to the people of the UK? But, then federalism may not work for them.

In America the majority of us have health insurance provided by our employers. The elderly and disabled are covered by Medicare. The poorer among us may have access to Medicaid. Military members have access to military hospitals and veterans can receive medical care at VA hospitals. Now that we have...

Don't forget the collection of cell phone data by the NSA and it's secret court. However, I might point out that people put far more personal data on Facebook than the NSA could ever gather. Our government is usually charmingly inept. Sometimes not so charming. How we got to be a superpower is simpl...

Oh dear. I really wanted to visit the UK someday. If it's going to implode, maybe I should plan to visit Sweden.

First of all, no intelligent liberal would advocate banning knives. Being liberal doesn't mean depriving others of their civil rights. Although some liberals would like to have stricter handgun laws, they can't outlaw them. That pesky Second Amendment allows Americans to possess firearms. A woman in...

Here in Indiana you only have to submit to a background check if you buy a handgun from a dealer. In fact, it is easy to buy one. Retailers such as Dick's, Gander Mountain, Walmart, and Big R all sell firearms. If you purchase a handgun privately or at a gun show, no background checks are required. ...

Former Secretary of the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shinseki, has resigned. The treatment of this man by the Congress and the President is unacceptable. His resignation will do nothing to solve the VA's problems. General (retired) Shinseki is a 4 star general and a former Chief of Staff of the A...

I was bullied and rejected in elementary school and junior high. I depaired of every having friends. High school was better. I went to a large high school so I could be more anonymous. I had a couple of good friends and involved myself in all the bands. However, I couldn't wait to graduate. I never ...

I took Seroquel a few years ago. I couldn't tolerate it. I was somnolent all the time, and my dreams were so vivid that I often confused them with reality. I purchased a pill splitter and cut the 100 mg tablets in half. I was still somnolent. I then cut them into quarters. Same effect. I eventually ...

Don't be too hard on yourself. English is a difficult language to learn because of its odd grammatical rules and tendency to adopt new words easily. I know many English speakers who have a poor command of the language.
